Pre-race routine:

Got up around 4am. The beds at the hotel were not the best. I got ready had a cliff builder bar and some water and prepared to head out. I took the bus with some other runners to the green line trolley and we were on our way to the Boston Commons to catch the buses. Free Ride on all transit with BIB # not a bad deal. Once I got to the commons met my one friend and we were on a bus and off to the start. The ride was not bad, it was a bit chilly on the bu and when we got to HOPKINTON we got off the buses and went to the wait area. This was a hug area spread out on 2 feilds. It looked like a huge pinic but there was only gatorade and water and begals. I had some food and then just laid around waiting to know what was next. It was chilly and I was hoping the sun would come out. It was along wait but finally it was time to go. I finished my gatorade and headed off to drop my bag off so I could have warm clothes in Boston. My frined and I made our way to the starting area. He went and did a warmup and I followed along and then used the port-o-john one last time and got into my starting coral. I waitng as long as possible before getting rid of my old sweats and shirt which was donated to the needy. The race was about to begin and all of the sudden the marathon gods said here is sunlight and the sun came out and it warmed up really quick.

Awsome.....Crowds are great. Hard to remember some stuff because I was mentally shot by mile 23..
What would you do differently?:

I would take salt tablets with me and I would wear my Garmin.

Course: First few miles were crazy. I never seen so many people running. There were people all over the place cheering. I thought it would thin out but it did not. I had to stop to water the trees during the first couple miles but once that was over I was good. I had a nice pace going and it was not about until mile 7 that it began to thin out. I was running with 2 guys and using them as pacers but as we entered the half way point around wesley the one guy took off and the other faded. The one thing I must say about wesley is that I have heard stories about how loud it is and it is so true. You hear this noise from about a mile away and then all of the sudden boom there are thousands of screaming girls and it is non stop. I was gald to get through there without being deaf. The course continued along and it was getting hott and the water and gator was not that cold. I was taking 2 cliff shots every six miles and this was helping. I had no real problems until I began my attack on the city of boston. I made it to heartbreak hill and I took this hill without any problems. It was after this that I began to realize why the Boston Marathon is the queen of all marathons. After making it over heartbreak hill I starting the decent into Boston and this where I realized I maybe in some trouble. I began to cramp somewhat and i was in some pain. i tried to drink as much as i could but I knew my sodium levels were low. I was able to keep moving forward but I was in some pain. Also by this time my mind was so gone beacuse I was dealing with so much pain I cannot recall alot about the course in boston. With about 3 miles to go I knew I was not on pace to break 3 hours but I knew I wanted to come back and do this again so I pushed myself and I was able to requalify in 3:07:31. As I crossed that finish line I was like WOW. I got my chip off and got my medal and proceeded to get my gear. This is wera things went bad. I was trying to meet my fiancee when I got sick. As soon as I got sick they took me into the medical tent and they looked at me. I was laying on a cot and then wrapped me in blankets and made me eat chips and drink a salt water solution. I was deydrated but not enough to need an IV. After about 25 minuets I felt better and they let me go. I met my fiancee and we headed back to the hotel. I said I will be back next year. This in one race that is hard to put into words. I had a great time and although I am still sore I will be fine. I must admit this was probably one of the coolest races I have ever done. The ironman was awsome but this is right up there. As for the pain I feel that if I had not done an ironman I would not have been able to keep going. At that point it is mind over matter and your body and brain want to do opposite things. I am very happy with my accomplishment and I now respect the Boston Marathon and the Queen of all races. I am going back next year and I am going to attempt to break 3 hours.
