Pre-race routine:

I stayed with TriToy the night before the race. I met some of her friends and they were pretty cool. I got really sick during the prerace dinner and did not realise I was greatly dehydrated since I flew and did not drink much once I got to Boston. I called my friend and she told me she thought I was dehydrated. At 10 pm the night before I am drinking water and lots of gatarade trying to get my water levels up. I felt alot better after I drank 32 of gatarade and I was able to get something to eat. Before I left for the race I thought my water levels were ok. I drank my water bottle I had with me on the bus ride which took about 1 1/2 hours. I got to the race site where I drank about 3 glasses of gatarade. I grabbed a towel out of the garbage so I could use it to keep my legas warm. Before I had to leave to the start line I went and peed and it was a dark yellow. That made me nervous and scared that I was going to have issues. I ran into Max at the start. I really did not stay too long and chat because not only did I want to get into my wave but as soon as the horn sounded I moved up throw the other waves trying to make my wave to the start line ASAP. I did not know if I would come in after 6 hours and I wanted to be a finisher and get than damn medal. I am such a medal whore. The long line area of bandits really surprised me.
Event warmup:

walking .7 miles from athlete village to the start line.

Comments:

I was getting tired walking up the hill to the start line. I understand why they have the 2 wave starts now its so crowded. You do get a sense of tradition of the race though.

I started out way way too fast. Well atleast way to fast that my plan. The first 10k I had my second fasest 10k of my life. Well its hard to say if I was going to fast or going as fast as the course was pushing me on. Early on about mile 8 - 10 I was 10 minutes ahead of pace. I remained 10 minutes and even got it to 15 minutes ahead of pace. The girls of Wellesy even for BOP was great and I just started running 10 min miles when I passed them. It really was a fun and excited race. I felt a little sick early on though. I did handle the newton hills exactly like I wanted too but heartbreak finished off alot of my reserved time and at the end of the race my legs just could not move anymore. Even about 2 miles out I had a good shot of getting into the 5:3x time but in the end my legs jsut could not handle it. They were getting so tired. I forgot to chant Yankees suck outside fenway. I was tired and thought it was farther down. I almost broke down in tears when I crossed the finish line. Not only did I finish in the time but I PR. I did not really train like you should for a marathon and I did awesome.

What would you do differently?:

Well I wished I would have trained better. I really was not trained for the marathon. I was going to do a marathon the day before but I was just going to do it to finish and padded my finish count.

I would need to train on running down hills more if I was going to do that race again. I think my resting last week worked well. I could used more but 1 week was not too bad.
Post race
Warm down:

I got my food, my bag, and took the train back to tritoys house.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of long runs. Only did 2 runs over 13 miles.

Event comments:

It was really a great race and great experience. I am glad I took the chance and ran it. If I screwed up my Ironman some I am not too worried. Even if I do not finish the IM I will not regret my chance to run the race most of us runners dream about doing. I did not BQ and I do not care. I still beat about 200 people and I am happy about that. That is not counting those who did not finish until after the mates were shut off.
