Pre-race routine:

Got there an hour earlier then expected and took my time. Laid out the transition area, poked around, chatted tried to stay in the shade. No real warm up again but at least wasn't freezing before hand.
Event warmup:

see pre-race routine.
Swim
  • 13m 42s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Significantly better then last time. Swam well, started with entire men's field and held my own. Out and back course with the wind was a bit tough as post turn we headed back into the on coming swimmers. No real issues but bumped into some folks. In stage starts should be easier to begin and stay out front of my stage... hopefully...
What would you do differently?:

Become a better swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

A little slow in transition maybe because of shoes. When running out of transition with bike, tool pouch fell out of back pocket and had to return to get it.
What would you do differently?:

Get a small seat bag for tool kit/spare tube. No need to worry about that in transition and shouldn't be worried about losing them running out of transition either.

May want to try out pre-clipping shoes and strapping in when on the bike. Though I like the the ease of getting up to speed current way allows.
Bike
  • 40m 44s
  • 15.2 miles
  • 22.39 mile/hr
Comments:

Need more catagories for race pace... hard, but not hard enough. Spent first half of bike playing tag with 2 other cyclists who eventually dropped me. Had I held onto them might have stood a chance at a better overall finish.

Fluid intake was a bit lacking.
What would you do differently?:

A little bit more fluid. Push harder into the head winds.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Much better then last time. Got zip tie shoe laces which made a huge difference. Still could have been a little bit faster but over did well. Tried to run back out the bike entrance/exit...
What would you do differently?:

Be more aware to remember which way to exit the transition area. Cool bottle of water would have also been nice. Still much better then the last time.
Run
  • 20m 13s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 02s  min/km
Comments:

Pretty good run. Started off thinking I wouldn't be able to finish after cramping calves. Worked out after a couple of minutes and picked up the pace. Might have been able to make up some ground on 8th place but he consistantly was holding me off. Once again no puking across the finish line so can still push harder.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. Last event give it everything. Can run any pace I want for a 5k...
Post race
Warm down:

Water and a little stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mind

Event comments:

Liked the race a lot and will certainly plan to do it again next year. The choppy water was a bit tough to deal with but I'm a wus when it comes to the swim so thats just me.
