Swim
Comments: The swim was great... had fun waiting to start as my girls were holding signs and cheering at the pool. We started in 15 sec. intervals and I really could have pushed more. Since this was my first tri I felt like I needed to conserve energy. What would you do differently?: Swam faster as I did not push...but did enjoy the swim. Transition 1
Comments: I spent a lot of time in transition, no way to tell how much...but I am sure it is in my bike time. I sat down, laced my tennis shoes (including double knots), ate some luna moons and then hydrated. Again...my goal was to finish my first tri, not to race. I was cautious just barely recovered from a nasty flu. What would you do differently?: Pick it up... still walk to the bike and to the start..but perhaps not have a picnic before hopping on the bike. Bike
Comments: This includes T1 time. I really... really enjoyed the bike ride. How often can you ride without any stops? I kept seeing people fly by me as I sat upright on my specialized vita bike. I could have pushed it... again... I wanted to finish and I had all of this fear about my ability to do so. Route could have been 8.5 miles as they made some last minute changes. Someone yelled... keep pedaling those darling little girls of yours are waiting for you. Melted my heart. What would you do differently?: Wear my Garmin! I had no clue how far I was going, speed, etc. I also would have pushed a tad more. In retrospect... why didn't I buy a road bike? Transition 2
Comments: Again... no idea how much time I took. I did drink a tad before running. Didn't have to change shoes (one advantage to not using biking shoes) and walked to the start of the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing... enjoyed both transitions... odd huh? Run
Comments: This was the shocker... I could not run! Running is the one area I have improved in so much (still really slow) but I could only walk the first 12 min. Somehow I missed the course... I know I saw the start of the loop twice but after the race I realized I missed something. Somehow I think I did 1.5 laps. So... my run time is not accurate. This race was a tad disorganized... somehow my ivy education didn't help me navigate this baby race. What would you do differently?: Pay closer attention and wear my garmin. Had I done that I would have had an idea that something on the course went wrong. Post race
Warm down: I was embraced at the finish line with my incredible little girls all dressed in pink holding Go MOM signs. Do I really need more in life? I dedicated this race to my girls... who helped me to survive! Thank you Komen foundation and all the athlete's who gave to this wonderful charity. I think I picked the perfect first race for me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience, lack of confidence, fear, slow bike and not having my garmin on. Event comments: I felt great after the race...then the day after I felt blue. Almost like I didn't belong there because I am old, fat and slow. I put this into perspective today and now I am proud of my endurance and so happy that I finished. This was about celebrating life... I certainly accomplished that. One day i want to learn how to really ride a bike and since I am a fairly strong swimmer...I should attempt an OWS! BT mentor group is the best...thanks for the support! This is my first race... so not much routine. I did have the flu the week before...so I took it easy. I tried to drink a lot because I was still a tad dehydrated.
Does standing for 2+ hours count?
