Swim
Comments: Being my first tri ever, I hung towards the back at the start. I got into a nice rythm quickly; with all the bodies and excitement, it seemed easy to focus on getting into rythm. I bumped and got bumped a few times but didn't get freaked out by it. I was surprised how fast it went and before I knew it I was done. What would you do differently?: Start more on the right side and tighter to the buoys Transition 1
Comments: I felt like I transitioned well from swim to bike. They don't keep track of T times at this event, and I didn't use a watch to time myself. Got my suit off quickly and into my bike gear quickly. Took some gatorade and a shot block and headed out. Bike
Comments: I felt like I was faster overall on the bike. I didn't note my exact time on the cyclometer and I believe both T1 and T2 are combined with my bike time. I was between 19-20 for most of ride from what I remember and thought my time was roughly 30 minutes which would make my total transition time 9 minutes which seems way too high. What would you do differently?: pay more attention to my T times and bike times. Transition 2
Comments: I was more winded than I thought coming into T2. Felt the loss of energy here and was concerned about the run. I think mentally I set myself up for a bad run because I felt drained. My legs felt good, not like lead or jello, just felt drained of energy What would you do differently?: hydrate more during the run and take in more calories Run
Comments: I don't think I made it to the first mile before I had to drop to a walking pace. I just felt drained, like I couldn't keep up the pace. I don't think I was breathing out of control, it just felt better to walk. Kind of felt like my calves were on the verge of cramping but it never happened. I dropped to a walk pace 5 or 6 times throughout the run. I had some water at the half way point and it was refreshing. thought it might make me want to puke or cause cramping but I was fine. I was disappointed that I had to walk but ran the last mile with encouragement from other runners. What would you do differently?: hydrate more during the entire race and take in more calories Post race
Warm down: met my family and was really glad they were there to support me. picked up my things at transition. drank a full bottle of water as well as finishing off my gatorade. ate a plain bagel. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of energy, and poor execution of nutrition/hydration. Event comments: Overall I'm very happy with my performance. The goal was to finish and I did. I know I can do a better job on the run and could easily knock 10 minutes off that time. I'm planning to do this race again in September and will shoot to improve all aspects of the race,as well as pay better attention to individual times. Last updated: 2008-04-22 12:00 AM

I was up at 4:15 and on site by 5:45. Had an english muffin with PB. Got my bike into the transition area and wandered about to keep the jitters to a minimum.
