Swim
Comments: Start was great, I was on the outside and really avoided any crowds. I did however get my usual anxiety attack except this time it was really bad. I started off ok then thought about it and all of a sudden I felt like stopping and bailing from the race. I don't know what it is maybe the wetsuit and the constriction. I really don't know but it was very bad, I had to do breast stroke for a while. Then I got over it and settled into the swim and actually swam very well seeing I have not been swimming at all. What would you do differently?: Figure out how to get over the anxiety attack. Transition 1
Comments: Felt like it took an eternity to get my wetsuit off and then put my socks and bike shoes on. What would you do differently?: Use more PAM or more glide. Bike
Comments: Hard bike course, I chose to go with my Cosmic Carbones but would recommend lighter wheels if you have them. My Carbones have a 11-23 cassette on them meant for flatter courses. The uphill is long. What would you do differently?: I stayed in the big chain ring and my hardest gear when I did the turn for the uphill, wasted some time here to get going again. I need to use my 12-25 cassette and my lighter wheelset. Carry less water, I had one bottle with me and only drank about half. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: I have never done a race in road shoes before I used to use mountain shoes with SPD, this lets you run much faster then the road shoes. I also wasted some time looking for my spot (forgot to count the racks) Run
Comments: It was a little too warm for me but lucky the course is shaded. What would you do differently?: Nothing really besides the obvious - run faster :) Post race
Warm down: Some stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of swim training, T1 and see bike notes. Event comments: The race was delayed by 15 minutes but this was due to some safety issues on the course so fine with me. Not a bad race put on by SBR, what was very annoying is that even if you pick your packet up the day prior you still have to get back into line to get your chip on race day. Also would not preregister your own Championchip. Race goodies were the very bare minimum, Cotton shirt and numbers. For a Tri Store I think they could have been a bit more creative here. Usual breakfast, cereal, milk, banana and 2 cups of coffee. Drove to the race site. Had plenty of time to check out the transition and set up.
None really, just put on my wetsuit and waded into the water to get some water inside.
