Swim
Comments: I am normally a decent swimmer, so this year I seeded my self closer to the front of the wave. I expected a 25m swim. I was bit nervous about swimming in a full suit for the first time in a race, but whatcha gonna do... Horn sounded and I got a good entry. Swan steady the whole race but never felt in sync. The period of the light chop didnt mesh well with my stroke cadence. I felt good in the wetsuit although it rubbed my neck raw. MORE body glide next time! Got on the steps fine and glanced at the watch. 29+. not what I was wanting to see. I swam faster last year with half the training and no wetsuit. What would you do differently?: Probably shouldnt have used the suit without any practice. My mind was occupied by it more than I expected...other than that...Swim faster. I heard several people talking that they thought the swim was long by a couple hundred meters. That'd be nice if it was... Transition 1
Comments: Before the race, I was thrilled with my rack spot, first on the end of the rack under a tree. Now in transition it became a problem. The base of the tree is surrounded my mulch. Wet, cut up feet and mulch dont mix. The suit was off quick. Threw my helmet on and after futile attempts to remove the mulch from my feet, i put on my bike shoes. I would have normally had them on the bike but because of the condition of my feet, I wanted to minimize running barefoot. What would you do differently?: Not much. was happy with the smooth transition considering the mulch and the shoes... Bike
Comments: Bike went well. I wanted to average 21 and did so for the first 15 or so.. At around mile 15, I really began to feel my left foot. A combination of being in water for 30 minutes, covered in mulch, and pedaling opened the big cut...I backed off the pace a bit and was content with the ride. I had one water bottle on the bike. I sipped on that and took a gel at 15 mintues and 45 minutes of the ride... Other than the foot I felt great... What would you do differently?: Nothing. The ride went well. Transition 2
Comments: Again due to the foot, I needed to leave my shoes on. Dismount was fine but of course I could run as fast in bikes shoes as I would have liked... Racked the bike easily. I would have normally run without socks but I needed them today. Fought with the mulch again. Grabbed my race belt and was off. What would you do differently?: nothing... Run
Comments: I wanted to start the run at 1:40 and with my expected 52-55min 10k. finishing around 2:38+. But i was already down 10min. The run started and I felt great, other than the foot. My nutrition and hydration seemed to have been perfect and continued to be so on the run, sipping water and gatorade as needed. I had the energy... I noticed I was limping around the 2nd mile and my 8:45 pace was slowing... right at the four mile marker both right calf and and right butt cheek cramped hard. I had to stop to rub and stretch. I figure it was because I was favoring the right side. Now I just wanted to be under 3h. The final two miles was a combo of run/walk/rub/stretch/walk/run. Crossed the line at 3:00:52. oh well. What would you do differently?: HTFU. Post race
Warm down: I still felt good. Last year I could walk for about 20 minutes. I got some gatorade and water. walked around with my family/friends and enjoyed the sights... What limited your ability to perform faster: that fact that I'm a wuss... Event comments: Cant wait till next year. Last updated: 2008-04-23 12:00 AM

Not too much. Got up at 4:45 and made the drive over to ST.Pete from Tampa. I'm one who can't really eat before exercise. So I just sipped water on my way over. I got a bit hyponatremic last year (2007 St.A's was my first Tri) so i was careful not to over hydrate.
Early in the week, I lacerated my feet (long story) with a bad one on my left foot. I did everything I could to heal quickly and I hoped it wouldnt be too much on an issue.
Also, due to a shipping problem, I didnt receive my wetsuit until the friday afternoon of race weekend. I got in one quick swim of about five minutes on friday. Felt good, though.
Set-up my Transition. Said hi to Q who was about 10 bikes away on the same rack. put on my wetsuit and walked over to the swim start. I was very calm this year as opposed to last. Quick swim and waited for my wave.
