Total Time = 1h 17m 10s
Overall Rank = 18/500
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/71
Pre-race routine:

The usual breakfast: Cereal, banana, flax, and coffee. Sipped on some Infinit an hour prior, and a Red Bull a half an hour before start.
Event warmup:

5 miles on the bike, calibrated the SRM, threw on the wetsuit and got about 500 m warmup. No warmup run, but didn't have time.
Swim
  • 24m 8s
  • 1100 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

This swim got really mucked up. The start was pretty violent. Lots of kicking and slapping. Swam over someone (that was a first for me). I was comfortable in the chaos though. Swam some water polo and saw a group of 4 or 5 guys go by got on their feet. Didn't sight for awhile and then I lost the feet. Sighted and I was horribly off course. At that moment I felt as if the whole race was gone. Everything in me was just lost. At some point I said screw it and started swimming hard again, but it took awhile to get back the "race" mentality.
What would you do differently?:

Swim on my own and sight.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Fastest transition in age group. Can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing
Bike
  • 31m 36s
  • 14 miles
  • 26.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Fastest bike split in my age group by over a minute. Considering I rode really hard on Thursday I'm happy with that. My average power was down about 10-13 watts at the HR I was pushing, so I'm attributing that to the prior race. Still I can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

Racing on fresher legs, but this was a tune-up and not a priority race. So no need to taper, but I know I could have gone even faster than this.
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

2nd fastest in age group. So I'm happy with that.
What would you do differently?:

Just like the first not a thing
Run
  • 20m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a good run for me. Came outta T2 and I felt like I was going pretty hard. I knew Dime was right behind me and would be catching me soon. I heard him coming up and I put my hand out, he smacked it and was gone. That guy just screams on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. I'm fairly happy with this perfomance.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran about a mile with Dime and then got beer and pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My piss poor swim

Event comments:

I beat myself up for awhile about this. Even hesitated on posting my report.
With the exception of the swim the rest of the race went great. Fastest bike split outta 71 by over a minute. 2nd fastest run. I just know if the swim hadn't gone horribly awry I would have won my division. Oh well there will always be more races. I gotta give big props to Breckview and Dime who absolutely stomped this race. Also I gotta give it up to Dime again for the philosophy he was dropping via Blackberry.
