Swim
Comments: My goal going into the race for the swim portion was to 1) finish and 2) be somewhere around 30 min. Accomplished both so that was good; however I have a lot of room for improvement. My sighting was horrible. A few times I went way off course. I was super nervous for the first 200 yds or so and even did some breaststroke. Luckily, I was able to calm myself down and get into a rhythym. In the pool I always say 1-1, 1-1, 1-1 for the first length of the first lap, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, for the second length and so on. I actually started saying 1-1 to myself and that really worked to calm me down. What would you do differently?: I just gotta spend more time swimming and get in the lakes more. I have tons of room for improvement so I am looking forward on working on the swimming! Transition 1
Comments: I liked how my transition area was set up. I feel like I got my wet suit off in a decent amount of time. I had to sit down to get my legs out of the wet suit. Not sure if that's normal or not. It worked for me I guess. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Bike
Comments: The bike portion was great. I was just having a blast. My goal for the bike was to be higher than 19 mph. My fastest training pace so far has been 18.7 mph so I felt like that was a good attainable goal. Woot, now I can aim for 20 mph! The only distraction I had was wiping drool off my face every once in awhile when some really nice looking bikes went by. They put my low end road bike with no aero bars to shame. What would you do differently?: I probably should have drank a little more water; however my stomach felt really full. Transition 2
Run
Comments: It didn't take long for my legs to get going. The run was crowded until the sprint course people turned around, but just like the bike I didn't feel like I was ever boxed in or not able to pass. A few of the water stops ran out of water and all they had was hammer heed. I'm not a big fan of heed, oh well. What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. I ate the pulled pork barbeque sandwiches they had for racers and listened to the awards ceremony. Event comments: For my first triathlon this race was great! I like the feel of "bigger" events and races and this is definitely on the larger side. Last updated: 2008-04-25 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5:15 and left the house around 5:45. Ate a bagel and cream cheese and had some gatorade on the drive. It was only a 50 minute drive to Buffalo so I was there nice and early to set up my transition area. I asked a few people around me some general questions and looked at how others had set up their transition areas. Everything went pretty smoothly. Ran into mndiver and we chatted a bit (not sure if he could tell how nervous I was!)
Just rode the bike for 5 or 10 minutes. Made sure everything seemed to be working and made sure I was in the right gear because there was a little hill out of transition.
