Run
Comments: I went into the run with the intent of trying to set a PR. My previous 5k PR time was 31:04 and I was really gunning to break the 30:00 barrier. The first mile was extremely crowded and spent doing lots of weaving. I walked through the water stop at 1.5 and then kept trucking. I slowed my pace down around 2.5 because of a painful side stitch, but then picked up the pace for the final quarter mile. What would you do differently?: Positioned myself differently at the start to avoid the constant weaving I did around slower runners. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and grabbed some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: The sheer volume of runners for the small amount of running space provided. I lost time due to weaving throughout most of the course. I guess the side stitch is to blame as well. Event comments: It's about time I broke the 30:00 5k barrier. I was pleasantly surprised that I came in at 28:40 and not the 29:30 range I was anticipating. Does this mean I'm no longer in the back of the pack!? Last updated: 2008-04-25 12:00 AM

Morning toast w/ water and an oatmeal raisin granola bar.
Stretched to loosen my hip flexors and walked around.
