Run
Comments: Wicked wind chill in a few areas and against the wind nearly the entire course. Lots of icicles on eyelashes needed to be cleaned away multiple times. So glad I had my facemask. Started slow at about a 9:15 mile and gradually increased pace at mile 6 which worked well. What would you do differently?: Start at a little quicker pace. Post race
Warm down: Just tried to stay warm in soaked clothing head to toe. Race coordinators were giving thermal sheet coverings at the finish. Stretched a little in my van and then went to get a shower as quick as possible. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weather Event comments: I think a third of those who signed up actally made it to the race because of the weather. Classic Minnesota spring weather, severe snow storm in late April, nice. Why do we live here again? Last updated: 2008-04-27 12:00 AM

Let home at 5:00 AM, 6 inches of snow in driveway from night before, took about 1 1/2 hours to get to Nisswa despite crappy road conditions. Drink 20 oz of LL gatoraide along the way too.
Warmup had a different significance in this race, just trying to stay warm was difficult. Bus that transported us to the 1/2 marathon start was at least warm. about a couple hundred yard walk to the starting line in 15 mph blowing snow while sliding around on a slipperly trail was my actually physical warmup. Just thinking to myself (probably like everybody else) that this race would be one to remember and so glad I did not sign up for the full marathon.
