Comments:

Felt ok. Paced it alright. Probably could have gone a bit harder but this was ok. This race was a fun one anyway. Not a huge priority, just a chance to run with friends on a nice day.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, take it easy and run with Dud or make it a tempo workout or race it. The gun went off and I took it at what felt like a medium pace for a minute or two, then I realized I felt ok, so I decided to pick it up a bit and see what was what. I could see Kam and Ken ahead and decided to keep them in sight. Kameron I've been beaten by in a 5k, I can live with that. Ken, no. ;)

I saw Ken fall off Kameron and I wasn't going to lose her, so I passed him after a bit. He looked ok. I stayed about 20 yards behind Kam who was pacing off of a guy in a green shirt. I just maintained that at what felt like a good pace. The uphills in the first half were more than I expected so I figured I'd use Kam and Mr. GreenShirt as canaries in the coal mine so to speak.

Caught up with them somewhere around the middle of the course and maintained for a bit. Pulled away from Mr. Greenshirt and Kam followed, which was good. I felt she was faster than him and shouldn't have been pacing of off him.

I picked it up a bit and Kam fell off. I was looking for the 5k mark to start my push. Did so and was able to maintain a nice strong, steady pace for the last 1k. Maintained a steady 5:22 pace for about half of it, the rest of it, my pace went with the hills. My final push for the finish was sub 5's with a bit of sub 4 at the very end. It'll do.

Still, 2nd in my AG. As Kam said, maybe the 6k is my niche.
What would you do differently?:

Go stronger for the full distance. Could have cut at least 30 seconds off of this if I had started racing it from the beginning.
Post race
Warm down:

Videotaped a coronation.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Genetics. Not being totally in the game mentally.

Event comments:

Good local 5k-ish race. Plenty of parking right next to the start/finish. Good amenities and food. Well done. Recommended if you're in the area.
