Swim
Comments: I thought the swim was way harder this year. For starters, I got stuck behind and in between people a TON until the first turn, and even until the second I felt like I was battling people. There were a lot of bigger swells this year, and I never felt like I could get a good motion going. I was pretty disappointed in my time because I think I'm much faster than that...I did better last year but I think there were less waves. Transition 1
Comments: This was my worst transition in a long time. What would you do differently?: I think I basically dogged it...my pre-race wasn't very good in setup so getting my gear together took way longer. Bike
Comments: My bike was pretty weak, I think. I didn't dog it but I didn't push nearly hard enough. I was faster than last year but I should easily be above 20mph...there were a lot of times that I knew I wasn't throwing down and should have. Also, I got six minutes in drafting penalties, which I'm going to appeal. Each of the three penalties were called when I was passing another rider, NOT when I was behind them. And given the number of very fast riders who were so obviously drafting, I really don't see what in world officials were doing messing with weekend warriors like me. Lame. What would you do differently?: push harder Transition 2
Comments: I had to move a couple of bikes to get mine in...not cool, but what can you do when your neighbors have left you like this. My T2 time should be way closer to 2:00. Run
Comments: I had a great run and felt great the whole time. I might have been able to push just a little more that last mile but I was enjoying myself so I didn't. I cut about six minutes off of last year's run time, so I'm pretty happy about that. I think I can run a legitimate 48minute 10K so we'll see if that happens in a few weeks. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: drinking fluids What limited your ability to perform faster: brainz Event comments: I love this race. It's huge but to me that's part of the fun. I'd do it every year if it were feasible. Last updated: 2008-04-27 12:00 AM

haha what routine. This year I stayed close to the venue and it was totally worth it. I left the hotel at 6:15am with plenty of time. The bad news was that while I went to bed at 10:30, I woke up at 3:30 and never really fell back asleep.
If walking a mile or two counts as warmup, that's what I did. I got in the water for like five minutes and swam around a bit since I hadn't been in my wetsuit since September.
