Swim
Comments: My first pool swim triathlon. I didn't like it. Passing people threw off my tempo, and I over exerted myself to pass quickly making my final 100 meters hellish. What would you do differently?: Practice flip turns for saving time. Transition 1
Comments: This T1 time was a disappointment for me because I practiced this for speed after taking a tri clinic the week before. My only explanation is that my rack was far from the Bike Mount line and I had to run a long way on the pavement. What would you do differently?: Somehow go faster. Bike
Comments: I've really hated when other people used the term "Hammering the Bike" before. But now I realize that was because I'd never done it before. I can honestly say that I let it all out and "Hammered It". I was surprised by my average mph, but I guess the hills killed my momentum. What would you do differently?: Nothing. It was a hard, controlled bike leg for me. Transition 2
Comments: I was pleased with T2. My actual time at the rack was minimal. Just running from dismount line to rack took a while. Run
Comments: I sucked hard! This leg dropped me from a podium finish. I let the hills beat me, and let the heat slow me down. I could have done better. What would you do differently?: Maybe kept more cool to not feel overheated and run faster. Post race
Warm down: A quick run to the car because I had to meet a real estate agent back at Chapel Hill at noon. What limited your ability to perform faster: My conditioning for racing in the heat. Event comments: I really liked this race, and want to do it again. It was very well run. All of the racers I met were extremely friendly, and everybody seemed to have a good time. Being my first race of the season, I was very very excited the night before the race and did not sleep much. I was up by 2:30, and decided to get out of bed at 4am. I left early for the 45 minute drive to Riverood Athletic Club, arrived at 5:30, and was the first car in the parking lot. I Listened to XM radio sipping water and a Carb drink while I waited for race day registration to start at 6am. After that I just stretched and waited a long long time for my 9:43 swim start. It was fun to cheer on the racers who were exiting the swim building as they ran to transition.
Nothing except said stretching and a half hour nap on the grass.
