Swim
Comments: I was nervous, but the water was warm and clear (ie- no seaweed in the face) and I didn't have to touch the bottom of the river so I wasn't grossed out. I crawled on some people for the swim and other times I was crawled on, but I felt pretty good. I passed some people in the wave ahead of me in pink caps but then I saw an orange cap pass me, so it wasn't a big deal. What would you do differently?: Don't lift my head as much to sight, try to find open water and get some great big strokes in before sighting again. I could tell my form with my neck was bad. Also I could feel my hip flexors hurting towards the end of the swim and that was no good. Transition 1
Comments: I put a sock on backwards and I wasn't really able to clean my feet with all the grass off first but at least I didn't waste a whole lot of time. I walked this transition. What would you do differently?: Put my sock on correctly. Maybe run... but I doubt it. Bike
Comments: I took turns really slow. I lost my waterbottle on the second loop. The worst thing was I was doing 17-20 on my first and part of my second loop, I was doing really well, even kept pace talking to this lady next to me. Then about half-way through the second loop I bombed. I slowed WAY down maybe 12-14 and it was pitiful. I good feel my hip flexors and my knee, they really hated me but I kept going even if I was slow. I was happy to finish. When I did get off the bike I was so jelly-legged and my stomach hurt. What would you do differently?: I will never eat a fiber-one bar on the bike again, and I'll try not to lose my water bottle. Also watch my pace to keep it steady. Transition 2
Comments: I was really jelly when I got off, lots of walking. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I did what I could. I walked the whole transition. Run
Comments: Brutal really brutal. I didn't feel like running and my legs felt like jelly. I tried to run and then walked. I tried to do the pole to pole but my legs just would not cooperate. I mentally wanted to go my will-power was just not with me. Then I didn't feel good, my stomach was made because of the fiber-one bar. I think I ate a gel on the run... I can't remember. What would you do differently?: I need a load of more practice. I just need to get out and run more, build up endurance. Post race
Warm down: No real warm-down. I just walked off with my girls. What limited your ability to perform faster: My injuries felt OK during the race. I felt a little bit post-race but not much. Great food afterward. Event comments: I wish there were more people to cheer us on. Maybe send some volunteers around the bike course to cheer. Also there were no water stations on the bike, need more water. Washcloths were fantastic though! Great idea! Last updated: 2008-04-29 12:00 AM

I was with all the girls (Michael, Emily, Katie and Julie) and we just set up our transitions and then went to the potty. I put the wrong number on, I told the body marker 297 and got it written all over me when actually my number was 279. It was a panic moment but the girls kept their cool and told me to just erase the numbers and it worked! They came off, Julie had another Sharpie and all was well with the world.
There WAS an open water swim beforehand but I didn't want to go in and swim around in case it freaked me out.
