Swim
Comments: Time includes ~30s run to timing mat. Discounting this, the pace would have been 1:34/100M. AHR: MAX: I had a good, but not great swim. Didn't push it quite as hard as Black Bear. Had some decision to make regarding drafting vs. navigation. Most in our wave went left of the buoy line. I spent the bulk of the first half drafting but then I was off the buoy line. I then went solo and cut toward the line before finding some feet. Not sure if I would have been better off in a larger draft or going solo or with fewer ppl on the line. What would you do differently?: Maybe swim a bit harder. Transition 1
Comments: I opted to take my suit off in T1. In the past I use to take it off immediately upon exiting the water. Either way I don't think there is much time savings and the suit came off no problem. I still had to peel the heels off by hand, but that's the norm for me. Shoes were already on bike and I wasn't wearing socks. So pretty straight fwd T1. AHR: 164 MAX: 171 What would you do differently?: Practice suit removal more. Bike
Comments: Road a solid, but not killer effort througout. Found two guys who were about my pace on the first loop and the three of us paced/jockeyed positions. They'd take me on the climbs and I'd catch/pass on the downhills and flats. By the time the second lap rolled around the course was a mess! Part of the problem is the lap ends with decent and I was going mid-30s coming down on a bunch of ppl clipping in and getting up to speed. A bit dicey. Had to deal with a lot of traffic on the second lap but still managed a solid ride. I don't have exact splits but I know I was at 32:xx after lap 1. So worst case I postive split by <1min...given the traffic, that wasn't bad. What would you do differently?: Possibly ride harder and not fear blowing up. Transition 2
Comments: Had a little struggle getting running shoes on as the sides were rolling in with my foot. Besides that, good T2. AHR: 158 MAX: 162 What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Run
Comments: Had a solid run. Had no idea what pace I was running until I hit the first marker. Was happy to see a low/mid 7. Ran pretty steady for next couple miles. Almost yacked when taking a gel at mile 3. Tried to pick it up for the second half, but mentally I need to be more confident. I kept on worrying a bit too much about blowing up. Ended up not really picking it up until the last 1.2. Happy with the negative split. What would you do differently?: Push it harder throughout. Esp. the second half. Post race
Warm down: Waited around and cheered in Brad, JohnnyKay, Laura and some other HRC team members. Got some food and then a massage and then went back to cheer for kristin, but got distracted by some hrc folks and missed her go by :( What limited your ability to perform faster: I feel my training was solid leading up to this race and I was able to set a PR. I've trimmed off all the low hanging fruit, so each additional minute is going to be harder and harder. I think I just need to trust it and go for it. I think I may go a lot harder earlier in my next oly (W-B) just to see what happens. It has a 7+mi run so there won't be any PRs there anyways. Event comments: This was a fun race. Great course, good food, and the massage line wasn't bad. Very spectator friendly. Parking and packet pick-up were easy. My only concern is the number of participants. It was really crazy at times on the second loop. I even saw ppl braking on the uphills....that should never happen. Last updated: 2008-04-29 12:00 AM

Up at 3:50. Coffee, bagel w/ PB. Pack car and out the door at 5:00 along with Laura, Brad and Kristin.
Nothing much. Biked about 1mi to race start with gear. Besides that I did swim ~100M prior to the swim start.
