Comments:

At the start of the year this was the most important running race on my schedule. I have always wanted to break 40 minutes in a 10k and would have done it last year without the brutal windy conditions. This year, leading into April I was running very well and was very confident of going sub 40. But unfortunately the injury bug hit me the first week of April and I have had stop and go training due to an IT band injury. So my training for April was pretty bad running wise and I changed my race strategy to deal with this. I decided to go out and run the first five k hard, and see what happened. Well, the first few km's were pretty good, the first km is always super congested as people who run 50 minute 10k's decide to always seed themselves too far up which makes for a tough 1st km, the next three km's were all run sub 4 minutes and while I was feeling OK, I knew that I wouldn't be able to old the pace. The 5th km is where it started to unravel, I ran it in 4:01, but it was the first of the uphill km's and at about the 5.5km mark I had to walk for about 30 seconds to sort out my quad cramping, which must have been due to lack of training this last month. From then on it was fairly tough mentally, just couldn't find a steady rythym and I had to walk out some cramps again just after the 8km mark. ended up finishing OK, and despite the rough day I am still happy with this time, the fact that I ran this well despite walking twice makes me feel confident that I can break the 40 minute mark this year, now the search for another 10k race begins!!!
What would you do differently?:

Not get injured. I feel if I had been able to keep up my training I would have been where I wanted to be.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around for a bit, threw on some warm pants and jacket and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor training through April due to injury.

Event comments:

Always good fun at this race, lots of fans, and music on the sidelines, good times.
