Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:15 to get there early for a close parking space. Ate a banana and had some coffee. Wanted to post a good time, this is the first race I have done twice so I can finally compare races!!!!
Event warmup:

Streched as much as possible, I had some back problems early in the week and wasn'tsure I would be able to race. I had a massage on Thursday and it saved my race!!
Swim
  • 09m 41s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, I decide I wanted to be up front. I have really improved my swim and I know I could make up some time. IMPROVED MY SWIM BY TIME BY 2:26 minutes!!!!

My sighting was fantastic, best ever.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training and stay up front.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Good t1, improvment from last year 3:01 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Just keep my head and try a way to put my socks on faster
Bike
  • 38m
  • 13 miles
  • 20.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike, I went hard and passed a lot of people. I was worried about my back, but it held up well. IMPROVEMENT OVER LAST YEAR 8:16 !!!!!

What would you do differently?:

Train on the aero bars more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I was all the way at the end of transition next to the run out. I had to run about 75 yards with the bike out/in. Just the luck of the draw. I also noticed that they placed all age groupers together in transition so we all had the same disadvantage. It made it a bit crouded in T1, but thinned out in T2. IMPROVEMENT OVER LAST YEAR 1:08 !!!
What would you do differently?:

get faster!!
Run
  • 27m 4s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

My back and lack of training the last week began to catch up with me. I was a little flat to begin and never really got going. i was caught by a friend at 1.5 and that really gave me a lift (thanks Dan!). Overall pretty happy considering I couldn't really wal on Wednesday!!
IMPROVEMENT OVER LAST YEAR 2:58!!!

What would you do differently?:

Have a healed back and train better for the run. More interval training.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some fruit and streched, met with my trigeeek friends. We have a smallgroup that has been training together and it was a first for most. It is really fun seeing them realize that they are hooked. EVERYONE is already planning thier next year. One teammate even signed up for 70.3 Augusta. (We think he forgot to fuel after the race and was delerious!!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My back, I was just happy to be able to do the race. I can't complain, I was lucky to be able to race and I IMPROVED MY TIME FROM LAST YEAR BY

18:06!!!!

Event comments:

Great race well organized for such a large race. Everyone is very positive and will try to do this race every year.
