Swim
Comments: This race last year I tried to swim with the big boys. BIG MISTAKE..HUGE! Heart rate was through the roof in the first 100m, race effectively toast. Duly chastened, I now maintain an MOP position for the swim and try to catch up later. I got boxed in the first little bit and wasted a little energy going around. Caught some feet after the first turn and really tried to turn it on just before the second turn. Another swimmer and I traded elbows for a few strokes 'til he got tired of it and and dropped his stroke 'til I was past. No blistering fast time but my standards are modest. What would you do differently?: Adopt a more aggressive attitude about the segment.. Transition 1
Comments: Shoes already clipped in/No shirt - It's pretty dang speedy. The lanes are really narrow at this race and there was a guy from an earlier wave lollygagging his way towards the T-exit..I called gangway twice as I approached and clipped him with the bike as I went past- Sorry, bro. It's a race. What would you do differently?: Try a flying mount. Bike
Comments: Interesting ride..A couple of riders from 40-44 exited T1 at the same time and we leapfrogged the rest of the race. I would pass on the up-hills, they'd catch me going down - Made for a little bit of congestion at times but everybody minded their manners and I didn't see any locked handlebars or drafting. Only saw one person from my AG and dropped him after the turnaround.. What would you do differently?: I think I could have really hammered the first hill if I'd remembered more about it..Approached the thing just a little bit cautiously. Beyond that, an ok ride. Transition 2
Comments: All that's missing here is the flying dismount..It's a nice looking trick. Run
Comments: I ran the 5k in 23mins..A good time would have been closer to 21, so not a career day. Really not sure what was up because I came out of T2 feeling good and it wasn't hot in the least..Reduced to walking at the top of one of the hills - The shame/Humiliation of it all. All that was missing at that moment was children throwing filth at me to complete the picture. Anyhoo, Fitness not up to snuff is the only possible answer so will have to consult the oracle. I was passed by one person in my AG - That was the diff btwn podium and not. He was running faster than me even on my best day, so an AG place was probably not in the cards from the git-go. What would you do differently?: Move it, lard-a$$! Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness level = Good not Great Event comments: Took 2 minutes and change off last year's time, and about 10 places in AG rankings..From that point of view, the day was good. Slight buzz-kill on the run but I'll be back to fix that. TTP is well run and a great opportunity to RACE! There are studs in dang near every AG so it's probably not the place to back into a podium spot. Last updated: 2008-05-01 12:00 AM
