Swim
Comments: 2004 8:49 2005 8:33 2007 8:14 2008 7:02 (into transition when I stood up in the water my time was 6:51) 19/88 women I REALLY wanted to go sub 8 minutes. I decided to EAT SOME PASTE today and it was GOOD :) I wanted to swim really aggressive like someone was chasing me. I took off aggressive and fast, I swam over a LOT of people....there were some people who were like "get out of my way" "excuse you" etc...I just kept my head down and kept swimming...its a RACE people....don't sign up for a tri if you dont' want contact...or how about this GET THE F OUT OF MY WAY :) I passed all those complianing bitches and left them in my wake. Cornered the buoys easily swam as fast as I could to the end. I felt like I had swum FAST and STRONG ....I stood up in about thigh deep water and my watch said 6:51!!! WHOOP WHOOP. Hit the watch as I came into transition 7:02...this is not a chip timed race so my watch times are probably accurate to a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Not a thing I swam to the best of my ability and was aggressive Transition 1
Comments: 2004 1:50 2005 1:26 2007 1:11 2008 1:07 Had a primo end rack place...sun glasses and helmet on...off on the bike...not much to say. What would you do differently?: not much. Bike
Comments: 2004 49:08 2005 47:41 2007 45:19 2008 44:31 (10/88 women) We knew it was a tail windout and a head windback so I tried to push it as hard as I could out. This is the first time I have ever worn a HRM monitor in a race so I had that feedback. HR was kind of high for biking but I knew not to be a slave to it. Its only a suggestion. Predictably got my breathing under control in about 3ish miles but my HR basically stayed the same. Interesting data. There were not that many women in front of me on the bike. Pushed HARD. EAT THE PASTE THE PASTE EAT THE PASTE EAT THE PASTE. That was my mantra. Approached the 7.5 mile turn around in about 21 minutes and change. Of course there was some chick who slowed to a freaking STOP and unclipped in front of me. Fortuantely I have EXCELLENT bike handling skills and was able to make the hair pin turn in about 1/2 the allotted space and took off again. I was looking out for people (Jeff, Wendi Matt on the bike) but really didn't see anyone. EAT THE PASTE THE PASTE EAT THE PASTE EAT THE PASTE into the wind. I wanted sub 45 minutes BAD. I saw Jeff out running. Took feet out of shoes about the last 1/4 mile. Dismount What would you do differently?: EAT MORE PASTE....Get stronger, leaner and faster :) Transition 2
Comments: 2004 48 2005 52 2007 1:10 2008 1:06 So I get into transition and there is a freaking SPECTATOR in my way in the TRANSITION AREA...WTF? I'm trying to get thru and I say "LOOK OUT" and try to run around her as she is taking pictures of someone and she swerves into me!!! She says "Oh I'm sorry I'm blind in that eye" WTF WHO CARES why are you in the transition area. I'm trying to put my shoes on and she says again "Did you hear what I said I'm blind in one eye" I said "There are no spectators allowed in transition you need to get out before you get hurt because you are goning to get run over" At any rate....shoes on, grab hat and belt and out to run. I am learning just how stoopid high my sweat rate is and had discussed it with my coach. I had a bottle of electrolyte fluid that I took out with me. Helped me on two levels. #1 I train holding/drinking fluids #2 I had frozen the entire bottle so I had something cold to hold on to #3 I need the fluid and electrolytes. What would you do differently?: not have a 1/2 blind woman in my way? Run
Comments: 2004 34:40 2005 36:04 2007 32:12 2008 31:38 35/88 women Can't complain. This is the least injured I have ever done a race. Hell I am not even nursing anything...I don't even know what to do uninjured!! I pretty much maintained a solid 10:30 pace which isn't bad for me. Legs felt fatigued but not injured. It was HOT. My electrolyte fluid was kind of leaking all over me but I drank it and threw the bottle off at the aide station. I took 2 short walk breaks during this run. Saw Jeff again going out, saw Wendi coming in. Dumped water on my head on the way back. Tried to finish strong. I think about everyone who beat me in my age group passed me on the run. I'm Ok with it and I am used to it. I knew my age group was big and I really didn't have a chance to place anyway. I did my very best and thos was a GREAT run for me. I would like to have a sub 10 minute per mile average in a sprint someday. What would you do differently?: get stronger leaner and faster, have a bottle that doesn't leak Post race
Warm down: Caught my breath. Drank water, hung with Jeff, saw Wendi finish What limited your ability to perform faster: I need more run endurance. I'm gaining on it. Event comments: 2004 1:35:15 2005 1:34:38 2007 1:28:04 2008 1:25:28 (24/88 women) AHR whole race 166 HRH 178 Good race as always. They are giving awards 5 deep now. Ironically the only year I placed was the year I was slowest. You never know who is going to show up on race day and you can't pass judegement on your performance that way. I'm happy with my performance. At my current level of fitness I don't think I could have done any better. Last updated: 2008-05-01 12:00 AM

RETURN TO CRYSTAL RIVER WHERE IT ALL STARTED. Got up REALLY early. Had pre-packed the car, drove over to Wendi's to pick her up. Drove to Crystal river. I was/am tired. I wanted a nap. We both thought the race started at 7 and it started at 7:30...DAMN a lost 30 minutes of sleep. Got checked in and marked set up transition braided Wendi's hair. We met up with Jeff (parrj) We swam a little. Nothing exciting.
Swam a little. I really wanted to go back to sleep.
