Run
Comments: Started out running in the pack at the back and paced myself with the gal that I saw from before. We were pretty evenly matched together. Then my shoe came untied. I waited as long as I could and then decided I really had to tie it. Not sure if I should have done it sooner or not, but it definitely took me out of my rhythm. The other gal left me and I never did get back to her. The hills were harder than I thought they would be, but I DID THEM! It was probably about mile 2 that I started to feel like I could run forever. That must be my warmup time. But, since I bettered my best time by 2:00 and I felt so much better running this time, I think the combination of a GU plus the running to warm up made a difference. It was still pretty chilly and windy. Really windy actually and with the added hills, that time could be somewhat deceiving. If it would have been a flat course, my time would have been even better. What would you do differently?: Get better sleep! Run a little more in warmup. Oh, and make sure my shoes are good and tied. I had to stop at about the 1/2 mile mark to tie my shoe and it took me out of a rhythm that I had gotten into. Post race
Warm down: Walked around some and stretched my legs. My hip was REALLY bothering me. Iced it after I got home. What limited your ability to perform faster: The hills and I think I need to warm up a little more before running. My hip didn't really bother me while I was running, only when I stop...weird. So, I don't know if that had any affect to my running or not. Event comments: Post-race breakfast included pancakes, bacon, oranges, bananas, coffee, tea, juice. It was incredible. There were several raffles given away and lots of awards (they were cool looking, too!) I will definitely do this race again next year! Last updated: 2008-05-01 12:00 AM

Dragged myself out of bed at 7:00. Hardly slept at all the night before! Made a small bottle of Heed and had about two swigs and felt kinda sick to my stomach so decided to have GU instead. Downed about half of that and some water. Left for the race at about 7:25 and arrived at 7:35.
Ran about 1/2 mile around the parking lot (Jim Ryun was running with me...well, beside me for a brief time. But, yes, this is THE Jim Ryun, the fastest miler in the world at one time and a US Olympic athlete. He's gotta be 60 something. The guy doesn't look like he's hardly doing anything and he's flying. His running style is the same since his Olympic days...it was cool) Did some stretches, drank a little more water and then headed for the starting line. Bret & I talked with Jim about the hills we were going to face and the weather. Saw a lady behind me that I recognized from a race a month ago and thought I'd try and stay with her in the beginning....
