Pre-race routine:

Got up at usual time, had brakfast of porridge and berries then got my kit together and loaded the car. Registered then but the bike in transition with all the kit I needed, had a coffee and hung around for the race briefing
Event warmup:

Didn't have much of a chance to warm up so tried my best and swam in a smaller pool for about 3 minutes
Swim
  • 09m 28s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim went well - I lapped 2 of the 6 in my lane and overtook all the others. My breathing wasn't great though and I ended up breathing on every stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Put in a more realistic time so I don't have to pass people. Work on my breathing
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Could have been slicker and could have run harder
What would you do differently?:

Move a bit faster
Bike
  • 28m 33s
  • 10 kms
  • 21.02 km/hr
Comments:

Lost my chain at one point and slipped off the pedals all due to sloppy gear changes, despite this I managed to ride confidently and at a good speed and wasn't too knackered.
What would you do differently?:

Not changed gear so cack handedly!!
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

Already in running shoes but the run off the bike was slow.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running off the bike more and run a bit harder
Run
  • 24m 13s
  • 3 kms
  • 08m 04s  min/km
Comments:

Run was hard going, my breathing was shot at - that said it was quick for me (just very slow in relation to everyone else)
What would you do differently?:

Maybe run a little harder at the end, just do more running really!
Post race
Warm down:

Warm shower and stretching followed by comfy clothes and a Bombay Saphire and slimline tonic! :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight! My lack of running skills!

Event comments:

The arrangements for after the race left a lot to be desired - nightmares with roads, information, being told the wrong things, people not knowing and just general chaos. I can away with the idea that you were informed up until the point you finished then were left to fend for yourself - an shouted at for no knowing!

The actual time was more like 7' 50'' but the timing mat was way away from the pool so I was logged at the start and entrance to transition - which added about a minute and a half.
