Comments: It went much, much better than I expected. I started with a 5' brisk walk to warm up and before I knew it I was at 1km! After this I jogged within my comfort zone. I felt like I was pushing it just enough. At 7km my knees were complaining a little bit but it was better than I've normally experienced in training. I did get some hip pain in both hips from about 9k, I managed a bit more effort for the last 50 yards but was at my peak really. What would you do differently?: Not attend the warm up, start in the right category, warm up properly before setting off. Post race
Warm down: Walked quite a lot afterwards and did plenty of stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training - but to be honest I did really well and much better than I expected. Event comments: Really pleased with my progress and would probably do it next year as well. 7306 out of nearly 12000 who started and 10216 who finished. Last updated: 2008-05-03 12:00 AM

Up early and porridge with fresh strawberries. Turned up quite early so had to wait until the whole thing kicked off.
There was some warm up on site but beforehand it was a choice of standing in the sun (and potentially getting too hot) or in the shade - where I shivered. The warm up was quite poor really and ended 30 minutes before we started. I decided to spend the first 5 minutes warming up when I got going. Yet again before I was so cold that my shoulders and neck hurt because I was tensing up.
