Run
Comments: The race started uphill for about a quarter of a mile on asphalt before you hit the trailhead. I felt like I always do when I start running...like I'm gonna die. So I ran all the way to the trailhead adn then as far as I thought I could and then I would walk about 30 seconds, then pick up the running again. I did this until I got really messed up with some mud and twisted my ankle. It was uncomfortable and hurt so I walked it out til I knew that my ankle was okay. Then took up runnning/walking again. My time was really bad but I had never run in the muck and mud before so it was a good learning experience and I did enjoy the scenery. It was cool! Next time I will realize the difference between running on a road and running in the muck and mud on a trail! What would you do differently?: Dress in a little more crummy clothes taking into account the mud. I would have probably pushed myself more to walk less and run more. Post race
Warm down: Stretched and walked around a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: The mud, the cold and wet. Event comments: The race director and staff put on an excellent race. The post race breakfast was awesome with breakfast burritos, chips, bananas, oranges. Plenty of hot coffee and pop. The awards looked like granite (using the name Rock Creek Trail Series) and there were lots of raffles given away...I won a new pair of Merril Trail Shoes! The weather could have been warmer and that would have made it more enjoyable, but that's not something that can be controlled. Last updated: 2008-05-04 12:00 AM

Got up at 6:00, dressed and drank a protein shake. Had to drive 40 minutes to the race. Picked up bib numbers, put those on and sat in the car for awhile because it was really windy and really cold!! BRRR!!
Stretched some, probably could have done more. Drank some hot coffee to try and warm up some. Took some short sprints to warm up and then jumped around waiting in line! The wind chill was something like 36 degrees!
