Swim
Comments: It was easy for me to continue; I did the whole thing freestyle. But occasionally I lost my breath and I would have to swim with my head out of the water from time to time. I lost count of how many people passed me, but I wasn't expecting to do well at all. What would you do differently?: Train more! Transition 1
Comments: Dried off, put on pants, extra sports bra, shirt, then socks and shoes. Forgot to get water and a gel...so that set me back a bit. What would you do differently?: Get the water and a gel! I was thirsty as heck! Bike
Comments: AHHHHHHHHHHH that was the worst part of the race in my opinion. I finished last and it was so embarrassing. I was followed by the police car the ENTIRE second lap. I could hear him on the megaphone every so often "Thanks guys, last biker. Wrap it up." I was passed by a good 50 people. It was uncool, and I couldn't bike fast because of that STUPID bike. It was so freakin huge, and I literally couldn't stand up on the pedals because I would lose control of the bike. So my butt was on it the wholeee time. Only one gear, back-pedal brakes. I cried for a good amount of time because it was so painful. =( Overall really disappointing since biking was (what I expected to be) my forte. What would you do differently?: Get a new (better) freaking bike!!!!!! Transition 2
Comments: I wasn't strong enough to rack the bike in the first place (as I said, it was a huge bike! with fenders!) so I just put the kickstand up, took a few sips of water, and went on my merry way. What would you do differently?: Nothing...otherwise everything was good. Run
Comments: So I was the last runner too, by a good half an hour. But it's all good. On my way back all of the volunteers peaced out, and at the water station they left a few cups of water for me. It was depressing being the last runner, but it was much better than the bike. I half walked/half jogged it. What would you do differently?: Tried to run more instead of walk. Post race
Warm down: Went back to the dorm and slept for 7 hours. Event comments: Funny...I went into the Athena division, where there were only 4 people. Came in 4th. I beat out one other person, who was a 17 year old girl. The was the only one in the female 15-19 division. Thus, had I entered that division, I would've placed 1st. Ha, interesting how things work! Well I didn't get much sleep at all (2 and a half hours) so my routine was just to be awake lol. I walked to the RPAC to put my stuff down, and walked back to my dorm to grab my bike (I couldn't get to the bottom floor in the elevator until 7 am). Then I biked back to RPAC. Yep, that was the routine. Oh, and I ate a PB&J sandwich :)
Just walking and a short bike ride.
