Swim
Comments: When I first started doing tris, the swim was pure terror for me (for good reason, the way I swam) However, through the last couple of years, my skills have gotten better and I have a wetsuit. The swim is really not an issue for me mentally anymore. However, whenever I step into that water, I put myself back to those first swims. Not the panic, but the mindset. I seeded myself at the back outside of wave. I was back there with the strugglers and side-strokers. The problem is that I am not a struggler. I have always had just one goal for the swim: to finish it (an excellent goal mind you). I think it is time to add to that goal. Quite frankly, I will always be a BOP swimmer. I just need to just stop thinking like one. What would you do differently?: Seed myself up the pack a bit and swim at a pace I am completely capable of. Transition 1
Comments: Holy cow, this was awful. I could not get my stinking wetsuit off. I ended up sitting down and even that was a struggle. I had put body glide on (apparently not enough) Just spent too much time doing everything. I think it is time to practice swim to bike trans. What would you do differently?: Hmmm let's see: everything. Bike
Comments: I know this is a pretty fast course, but I was happy with this split. Especially after the egg I laid at the Du I did last month. Mostly I was happy with my attitude. After the slooow start of the swim & T-1, I decided just to have fun and ride hard. Although I never felt like I was working too hard. I felt comfortable. I did feel like I was racing though, which was missing in my last race. It felt good, just to feel good...if that makes sense. What would you do differently?: More off season biking. Not be as fearful on the corners. Transition 2
Comments: Better than T-1, but still too long. Really how hard is to put shoes on? Apparently too hard for me. About 1/2 mile into run my shoe came untied. Time to get lace locks. What would you do differently?: Getting my fanny moving like it is on fire. Run
Comments: Felt pretty good and steady on this. My average never moved more than about 3 secs per mile. Saw most of the Donkeys and that was cool. (The name is Jim, Morey. Jim.) ;) Ran about 1/2 of this with my shoe untied. Nice. The only complaint with myself, is that I did not push myself to the limit on this run. I ran it at a comfortable pace. Its not supposed to be comfortable. What would you do differently?: push harder pace. Post race
Warm down: hanging out with all the Donkeys. Man these are some fast people. What limited your ability to perform faster: not enough speed training, mental attitude and the all-too familiar genetics Event comments: I had a great time at this race. Weather was perfect and really enjoyed hanging out with my fellow Donkeys. They are good peeps...and fast too. Congrats to Yams, Schmize and Pjgrande for grabbing the hardware. I have much area for improvement, but my head is back in the game and that is good. Last updated: 2008-05-05 12:00 AM

Got up about 3:50. Ate the usual (2 whole wheat bagels and a banana), packed the car and headed out. Wanted to get there early because of stories of limited parking and rack space. (those stories where true, but I got a good spot for both) Picked up chip and got body marked. Milled around looking for fellow Donkeys. Saw Yams and Morey first. Was first of many Donkey sightings for the day. Had lots of extra time but that is ok, it was nice not to be rushed.
Dewcided to run up to my car to get some water. So I actually ran. about 10 min total. Also did a little dip in the water before my wave to get used to water. Water temp was chilly, but not unbearable. Extra shout out to Deanna for zipping me up.
