Swim
Comments: This was a hard swim to navigate. We swam into the sun and the platform we were swimming to had was metal and very hard to see. Swim caps were orange.... ummm.. hard to see the bouys! Bouys were quite little too. Luckily I usually swim relatively straight. Ran into one of the bouys and was really wide on the platform both times. Transition 1
Comments: This was a pretty quick transition considering you had to put all your stuff into a bag. I'm getting better at this! The guy beside me was a little annoying, he was in my way and chatty. Forgot to start my watch until leaving T1 Bike
Comments: I was really happy with this bike. I pushed hard and was the second woman off the bike. HR was high... between 150 and 155, it crept up to 160 at times, so I may have been pushing too hard, but I felt good, knew I could sustain it for the entire 40 km. Time includes 2 transitions. Transition 2
Comments: Not a bad transition, but I forgot to tighten my shoes! Run
Comments: Sigh... this was disappointing. I know that I can do this faster and it's frustrating when I don't! Legs were quite stiff coming off the bike, I finally found my groove around Km 3 and started feeling sick. HR was high the whole time 165 - 170. Near the end it was 172 - 178. This happened in Florida also, is it nutrition? I don't know, but it's annoying. Let 2 women pass me around the 6 km mark (1 was a team), I knew the others weren't far behind so I really tried to push through after the 7 km mark. A lot of self talk going on. Ended up walking the water stations. What would you do differently?: Something.. I need to figure this out. More to drink on the bike, gels? Post race
Warm down: Sat in the shade and ate a freeze. Felt better within 15 min. Event comments: This is a good race... there are a few issues. The swim is hard to navigate, there's a lot of newbies and no pre race meeting, so we had cyclists all over the road. But the race directors and volunteers are great! Felt nauseous when I got up, but had a yogurt and PB sandwich on the drive to Magrath. This race has two different transition sites, so it takes a little while to get set up.
None really, had to catch the shuttle to get back to the dam, barely had time to pee!
Missed not being able to do my warm ups and sit alone to clear my mind.
