Pre-race routine:

Got up @6 and had toast w/pb, grapes, banana, and oatmeal. Washed it down with lots of h2o and some gatorade. Rode over to the TA on my bike (about 2-3 miles) and picked up my chip. Warmed up for another 15-20 minutes on the bike and put on my wetsuit just in time to swim a 5-10 min warmup in the lake.
Event warmup:

see above
Swim
  • 19m 25s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty good swim for me. Didn't go out too hard and got into a good rhythm by the first turn bouy. Finally didn't zigzag. Made the final turn and swam as hard as I possibly could. Hit the ramp in 18:56
What would you do differently?:

Swim 14-15 minutes (If humanly possible for me)!
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Would've been great if the wetsuit didn't get stuck on my ankles. But I got it off and clipped into the bike quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Get that wetsuit off my ankles!!!
Bike
  • 37m 5s
  • 14 miles
  • 22.65 mile/hr
Comments:

My derailer must have got hit during the drive b/c it kept slipping gears. However I found a big gear I could manage to turn around 88-94RPM and hammered it. Only one person passed me (a master male on a P3 Cervelo Carbon with Zipp wheels)...right at the end. I felt like a bullet!! Had I started off a little quicker, I might have averaged 23. Best bike ride of the year by far.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Sweet transition.
Run
  • 18m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Disappointed with 18:35. mile 1-5:48, felt great until around 2 miles and caught a nasty side stitch. I really felt like I could've ran sub 18. I couldn't breath the last mile but managed to finish grunting and gasping. I really wanted to kick it in and hammer the last mile to catch steven and leg wise, I certainly had it in me.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little less on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

5-10 min easy run after I lost the side stitch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

SIDE STITCH...BOOOOO!

Event comments:

Hard to be dissatisfied with my first age group PODIUM finish!!! If I could've ran to my ability, I may have took the category by storm!! Missed out by first by 1:22. But overall I have to be content with a good swim, transitions, awesome bike, TA 2, and good first 2 miles of the run.
