Swim
Comments: You ever heard the expression "choke artist"? Well, that's the act I pulled for about the first 200 meters. I don't know why I was so panicky, nobody was really running into me that bad, and I know I can swim the distance. I almost was hyperventilating and couldn't get my breathing under control. I had to physically stop, do some quick, serious self-talk about how much of a pu$$y I was being and you'd better start racing NOW, and started swimming again. Got into a rhythm and actually didn't do too bad once I had that going, altho probably wasted a good 2-3 minutes right there doing that. Navigation was ALOT better then before at Chatfield, and actually almost ran straight into one of the buoys! :) Just kept the pace kinda slow, mostly just wanted to get it done and onto the bike. Looking at the transition times, I wonder how fast I was in the water, because this time includes the run up from the beach, which was LONNNNGGGGG. What would you do differently?: More OWS and I think more experience with tri starts with a mass group will help. But practice makes perfect! :) Transition 1
Comments: Did awesome at my transitions I thought. Did some bodyglide on my legs/wetsuit before and it came right off. Shoes went on, no problem. Seemed like I was out of there in a flash! What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: A little wierd coming out of the water and hitting it hard right away on the bike, but I got into a groove right away and just RODE. Kinda hard to breathe, I've been fighting this chest cold and I kept getting coughing fits on the bike. Beautiful ride and killer route! Good elevation gain and some super fun long downhills. Battled with a fast-looking chic on a tri bike for almost the whole ride, guess who ended up winning? That's right, your's truely. Too bad she was in the AG below me :) What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing. This ride went amazingly well, ate Clif Shots and one gel and 1/2 a water bottle. Had so much fun on the bike, could have just stayed there for awhile longer! Transition 2
Comments: Another sweet transition time. Off bike stuff, on running shoes no problem, grabbed my race belt and visor and I was off! Decided to ditch the water bottle on the run. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Legs felt burned to start, and it was REALLY hard to breathe when I first started running. Wished I had an inhaler at the TA or something. Legs chilled out quickly but the breathing never did. My goal was to be at 50min or less and I almost made it. Got water at the turnaround point and that was it for hydration. Passed alot of girls in the last 2 miles that were in my AG, which was cool! Hmmm. Which is better? Good swim or good run? :) Guess the smart a$$es out there will say BOTH :) What would you do differently?: Nothing. BREATHE! :) Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit and watched Sara come in. If she hadn't got a flat, she would have KILLED me on this race! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of OWS/mass start experience and being sick. Event comments: Overall pretty happy with my time considering. I know I can shave an easy 8-9 minutes off my swim and at least a couple on the run by next race. For my first tri, it was a great time tho! Cant wait for Boulder Peak! Crashed at Sara's place up in Ft. Collins. Played with her girls and had a blast hanging out! Put the kiddos to bed early and tried to sleep myself but I kept visualizing the race...so much for sleeping. Got up at 4am to make it to the TA by 5. Ate a bagel, banana, and some coffee. Once to the race site, picked up our packets and raced out to get a good spot in transition!
Took my time setting up transition. There's alot of people in triathlon who think they are hot stuff and have egos/heads bigger then the room I'm sitting in. For example, I had a sweet spot right next to the aisle AND the closest to the gate where we come in from swimming. This guy with his Cervelo rolls up and racks his back so that HE'S in the spot now closest to the aisle and also right on top of the TA that I had set up! Fucke$. I had a few words with him, verbatim would be: "Get your damn bike off my $hit". :) Ran a bit outside the TA to warm up...cool out this morning! Overcast and a slight breeze.
