Pre-race routine:

Had a mountain dew and a Marathon bar- drove to race with Janet, Amy and Jeff- we satyed like 5 minutes away- which was nice. Did a little stretching- hung out with my friends....tried to get up to the 3:30 pace group- but it was too crowded.. I was feeling a 1:45 today. I rwally was kind of just doing this as a training hard- wasnt going to push much and wasnt going to be dissapointed in my time- but I thought I might do OK.

Comments:

They had 8000+ runners this year- which is great for them- but kinda crowded at the start as the full, half and 5kers all went out together. I felt pretty good going in - that off day Saturday really freshened up my legs- wonder what more of a taper for a hm would do. Starting out I saw a girl who beat me 2 weeks ago in the Appleton duathlon and passed her after about a mile :), then I saw a chic decked out out in her IM finisher gear- though...hmmmm I should try to keep up with her- passed her :) Mile one was like 8:10- good for trying to get through the crowds. In the next mile I started running with this guy in an oarnge shirt, who I thought was running a nice pace- I looked at my garmin and saw I never actually got signal (duh) so all I had was HR and time- which was fine- every mile was marked so I knew how I was doing. I stayed with the oarnge shirt guy until mile 11- we were doing an AWESOME job at staying at 8 min miles- like almost right on an 8:00-8:03 pace every mile... I love being able to pace myself- I usually have a problem going out too hard. I felt so good- so comfortable- until about mile 11.5 (?) then we were running by the staduim and got into a strong headwind- I think my pace slowed down a bit here AND I lost my running bud- I think he couldnt keep up with supergirl ;). Then we hit the stadium and that was kind of a rush so I picked up the pace a bit again...wish I would have a little more- I could have gone sub 1:45. this is almost a 2 min pr for me:) I also felt a ton better then I have after my previous half marathons. Grabbed gatorade once, water twice, and one GU...think that was OK..maybe one more water towards the end would have helped- but I was sorta feeling a side ache and didnt want to deal with that.
oh knees, itband- everything felt good too- damn good day
Ave HR 174..kinda high- Z4- but didnt feel that high..maybe time for another LT test

What would you do differently?:

nothing- could have done better but overall very happy- and happier knowing I could have pushed harder. Next time sub 8s :)
