Swim
Comments: Swimming is hard for me to say the least - very crouded 150+ start and never was able to find a good piece of water - not sure that would have helped. I still seem to attack the swim with a "just get it overwith" attitude. My time was better than I expected but did not have any fun at all with the swim. What would you do differently?: Work on my breathing and relax more. Transition 1
Comments: Due to my poor swimming technique my legs were very tired after the swim. Walked to transition - which took most of my time - helmet, shoes and socks on went smoothly. Walked bike to mount line. What would you do differently?: Be better at the swim Bike
Comments: I have a very heavy mountain bike that is more like a cruiser with big fat tires - that, added to my weight, and tired legs caused me to dismount 1/2 way up the starting hill. Ride went pretty smooth after that although the remaining hills were still very difficult with this bike. What would you do differently?: Ride a road bike with clipless pedals - or not at all. This was not pleasant and would not like to do it again! Transition 2
Comments: Since I was not wearing cycling shoes transition was very easy - off with helmet and on with hat. However had to make a stop due to over hydrating. What would you do differently?: Get a stronger bladder? Run
Comments: Ran out of T2 thinking that I was going to do fine taking small strides but by the time I got to the blacktop both shins had completely ceased up. I had never experienced this kind of pain before and I am no stanger to shin splints. Could barely walk non-the-less run for the 1st mile - it took everything I had to lift my feet up off of the ground and oh, the pain - I was seriously tempted to crawl! Once I started downhill my legs seemed to loose a bit so I alternated running and walking the remainder of the distance. What would you do differently?: Get some good stretched and warmups for my shins as well as professional rehabilitation. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, light stretching of my shins - professional ART on right shoulder and shins. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need a lighter, better bike, need rehab for my shin problem, oh, and more time in the pool to save my legs in the swim and of course train more. Event comments: This race was limited to 500 athletes. This was a great race for my 1st triathlon. I had a lot of support from my training group as many of them raced as well. Packed all but bike the night before. Up at 4 am, showered & dressed by 4:20. My friend Lisa surprised me and came to support. Out the door before 5 am and at the venue by 6 am.
Short group yoga warm-up then very short "get wet" warmup swim.
