Run
Comments: Had the Timex on so was just monitoring the general picture for the first run. Polly left me in the dust and I let go of trying to keep up with her. She's not in my AG so no worries! ;) 23:03 is pretty darned fast for me. My legs were not happy. They felt tired and like they might buckle at any time. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I think I managed things pretty well and just tried to go with what my body would allow for today. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was pretty zippy and I'm pleased with it. However, when I got to the mounting area I had all kinds of trouble getting clipped in and then found I was in the wrong gear to get going. Definitely lost time here. What would you do differently?: Put the bike in an easier gear so I wouldn't have to stand up to get it rolling. Not get rattled trying to get into the pedals. Bike
Comments: This course is really tough. Its mostly uphill for more than half of the way and then there are still some little hills to deal with once it becomes more downhill. Some of the downhills are scary and the road surfaces were pretty crappy. About 1 minute or so into the bike, I witnessed a very bad crash. The guy in front of me took a turn to fast and too wide and went right into the curb. Head over heals with the bike still attached and landing in a very bad way. It freaked me a little and reminded me that I needed to be careful. Again, my legs just were not feeling as strong as they normally do so the seemed hard. The wheels were totally awesome though! :) What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Transition 2
Comments: I wore brand new shoes today too. Tri shoes that were very easy to undo so I managed to get my feet out of the shoes while they were still attached to the bike. This made running down the steep grassy little hill with the bike a lot easier. Run
Comments: This run was just plain hard, but I was quite pleased with my ability to just go out steady and find a place where I could keep the legs turning over. I started out very conservatively and managed to pick it up a little bit towards the end. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I have to wonder if I might have been faster without the head cold and general malaise… ?? Event comments: This is the third year in a row that I have done this race. Three years ago it was my first ever multisport event. The first year I was within a 1 minute of placing in my AG. Last year I was within 15 seconds placing in my AG! This year I aged up (although I hadn't realized it as my BD is in August) and I finally got some hardware. I took first in my AG as the number one in the AG took first female overall. Very satisfying day for me! 2008 1:49:32 2007 1:56:19 2006 2:06:03 Last updated: 2008-05-09 12:00 AM

Went to bed the night before not really feeling well. Was under the weather all week and after riding a bit on Saturday and running around doing errands and such found that I was feeling kinda crappy by bedtime. Tried to turn in early in hopes that a good night sleep and a little pre-race adrenaline would have me feeling better.
Up reluctantly around 5:30, got dressed, ate my usual oatmeal with fruit and yogurt. Felt fatigue in my legs just going up and down the stairs and knew that was not gonna be good.
Finally got everything in and on the car and off to Glastonbury running late as usual.
Found the crew — Cappy and Meredith, C and Polly and her folks and they laughed at my late arrival. Hightailed it into the transition area to set up my bike. DUs are pretty simple and you don't need much so it didn't take long to get squared away. Found some other friends in the T-area. Talked some smack and headed off to the portos. Looong line so I opted for the woods.
A short run with a few pick-ups to try to get the legs feeling more alive.
