Swim
Comments: Thought the swim went well. I went out at a nice steady pace and quickly caught up with the stragglers in the groups ahead. It was somewhat challenging navigating through the swimmers from previous waves but everyone else was running into the same thing. I knew that swimming was my strength so I wanted to get out with the front of my age group and apparently I did that but was not sure at the time since there were so many swimmers I had to navigate through. I believe the swim time also included a short run out of the water to the timing mat located near the transition area. What would you do differently?: Not much I guess. I felt pretty good and seemed to navigate the course well. Transition 1
Comments: I need to improve my transitions I guess as I seemed to be slower than those at the top of the AG. This is only my second go at it so I am not going to complain. I put on my shoes at T1 and that is part of the reason my time was slower. That is what I am comfortable with now so I need to live with it. Bike
Comments: This is definitely my weakest leg but I have only been biking for a few months. This is the first time that I averaged over 20mph so that was nice and it felt pretty good. I was unsure where I started in my AG but I was sure that I was going to get passed by some of the stronger bikers. I was passed but not by as many as I thought was going to. I pushed it pretty hard so overall I am happy with my performance. My entry level road bike could use some upgrades and I definitely need to put in some longer rides to be more competitive. What would you do differently?: Need to put in some longer rides Transition 2
Comments: The 2 bikes that were next to me in transition blocked up my space so it was a little confusing. Overall, my time was a little slower than quite a few in my AG but I did spend a little extra time hydrating before the run. Run
Comments: I was pretty surprised that my time was this fast. My legs were a little tight for the first half mile but I was able to get into a good groove. I lost track of how many were ahead of me from my age group but it really didn't matter as I just wanted to run my race. I know that I did pass 3 or so from my age group so that felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: Nothing.... I was very happy with this run and it will be tough to beat in my next race. Post race
Warm down: drank plenty of water and waited around with my mom. I was very surprised to see my name listed in the top 20. Definitely not something that I expected prior to the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: maybe my lack of biking experience to date (and the need for better equipment). Event comments: I really liked the size of this race. The cap tex was a mad house and it was nice to see my mom cheering me on throughout the course. Wish my wife and son could have made it but she is 38 weeks pregnant so I think I will let it slide this time:) Last updated: 2008-05-12 12:00 AM

woke up at 5 and had oatmeal and a cup of coffee to put things in motion... I live pretty close to LP so I loaded up the bike and left the house around 6.
Not much... I tried to relax and did some light stretching. This was only my second triathlon (the first being the "First Tri" at Cap Tex) so I was definitely a little nervous/anxious to get things going.
