Swim
Comments: The time includes about a minute or so run up to T1. I felt like I had a good swim. I sighted pretty well and actually was able to draft with another swimmer for the middle portion. I was the 3rd person out of the water from my wave. Never mind that a 9 year old girl on a relay team was one of the 2 people to beat me. What would you do differently?: Not a thing. Transition 1
Comments: Kind of slow for me, but maybe the run through transition was a little longer than I'm used to. Bike
Comments: I coming to the end of a 16 week training plan and have been really diligent about getting in all of the bike workouts. I think it showed in this race. This is a really good bike split for me and about 2.5 minutes faster than when I raced here in 2006. The course is definitely constant hills, but easier than riding back home in NE Tennessee. I went back and forth with one guy for a while, but he eventually pulled away in the last 2-3 miles. Other than that, no on passed me. What would you do differently?: Keep my focus a little better for miles 7-9. Transition 2
Comments: I just bought a pair of the new Zoot tri running shoes. They really make a difference. Run
Comments: I've been battling an achilles injury for the last 5 weeks and have only been running in the pool (super fun, btw). I felt no pain during or after the race, which I think means that I'm past the injury. Still, I think my lack of running showed a little here. I'd expect to be closer to 19-flat when I'm in top shape. Still, I passed lots of people from earlier wave, never got passed, and finished strong. A good run considering the circumstances. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with my mom, walked around, rehydrated and tried to eat some calories. We went to Chili's after the race, which is kind of a tradition for the two of us. It made for a good start to Mother's Day weekend. What limited your ability to perform faster: I might have been 30-45 seconds faster had I not been coming off an injury, but I'm not really complaining. Event comments: Setup events is the best race company I've ever dealt with. All of their races are great. I would guess that I'll probably be back next year. Last updated: 2008-05-12 12:00 AM

I don't really have much of a pre-race routine. I woke up early, ate a couple of granola bars and some coffee, loaded up the car and headed to the race site with my mom. She's my #1 fan....okay, she's really my only fan, but still, it was nice to have her there.
We might have been a touch late arriving, which meant I had to wait in the packet pick-up line for about 30 minutes. Once I was through it was 25 minutes to race start. I set up transition with lightning speed and then went out for about a mile of running just to make sure the legs remembered how. Still, I've found that I usually do pretty well when I don't have time to over think things.
