Swim
Comments: This was longer than .8 miles. Everyone seems to estimating around 1 mile. I probably went slower than I should have because of no wetsuit and my sighting is horrible. I thought I was doing well for a while, but found myself drifting to the right a lot. I assume I do this because I breathe to the right. I have to start learning to bilateral breathe. Just add it to the list of things I need to learn. I actually felt good coming out of the water. What would you do differently?: Sight better. Learn to bilaterally breathe. Swim faster. Transition 1
Comments: I thought I did okay with T1. Guess not. Was a long run out of the water and we had to go up these stone steps. It was good to see Kathy G cheering us on out of the water. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I think I did alright. It was my best average speed for a race. I took a couple of gels, bottle of G2 and some water. It was a little discouraging doing 24mph and getting past, but oh well. I have at a slight ITB issue starting last week that started to bother me around mile 9. My back started to stiffen up a bit as well. Volunteers on the course were great. They guy on the water bottle exchange was awesome. Running start to hand off the bottle. He should have been on the U.S Relay team. What would you do differently?: Well since I am still on a borrowed bike, I haven't gotten it fitted yet, which is probably leading to some of the issues. In addition, I haven't put the clipless pedals on yet. I think I am just going to wait until I get my own bike or he sells me this one. Out of all three sports, I am definitely showing the most improvement on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Nothing to report. Run
Comments: I have really flat feet. I got new runnings shoes last week, but I didn't feel like I broke them in enough to run with them. Just like other races, my calves were cramping up pretty good for the first mile. After that, my ankles were killing me. I did the walk/run pace the whole time. The thing is is that I wasn't out of breath and I wasn't tired, I just couldn't run for long distances. What would you do differently?: Make sure my new shoes are right for my feet. Get more running in before my half marathon in 7 weeks. Do more bike/run bricks. Post race
Warm down: Ran the last 3/4 miles to the finish. Crossed the finish line, got my finishers medal, cold towel, and cold water. Again, can't say enough about the volunteers. They even took my chip off my leg. I found the family. I wasn't expecting them to come, but they surprised me. Surprisingly, I wasn't that hungry. I met up the BT gang and congratulated everyone. My son wanted to swim, so we went in the pond for a bit and let the kids play. What limited your ability to perform faster: I probably haven't done enough training the past couple of weeks. I also need to get my shoe situation fixed and make sure my ITB is not a problem. This was my 1st Oly and my 3 race overall and considering I was 25lbs heavier and couldn't run a 1 mile in Feb, I am pretty darn happy. Even though I finished last in my AG (again), I know I could have done better and gives me confidence for my 70.3 next year. Event comments: What a great race. Great location, excellent volunteers, lots of activities. I will be doing this one on an annual basis. Last updated: 2008-05-13 12:00 AM

Headed down on Saturday to register and swim for about 15 min in the lake. Met up with the MA BT crew for dinner. It was great finally putting names with faces. Found out Marmadaddy and Mrs Marma lived on the next street over from the house I grew up in. Small world. Ended up going back to my house instead of staying at my brother's house. Drove down with Rob(rcberto) on Sun morning. Had pb&j and water on way down. Set up transition, I was next to Glen from BT.
We started 15 minutes late. Went for a quick swim. I decided not to use a wetsuit. They said the water was 75. It was probably warmer than that. I don't like the wetsuit to begin with, so I bagged it.
