Pre-race routine:

Ate bar and Gatorade on the way to event. Gu and more Gatorade just before start.
Event warmup:

Rode about 15 minutes and swam a little.
Swim
  • 08m 35s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lots of weeds. Got caught up in lots of traffic at the turn around. Was a bit fatigued in the middle, but started and ended well. Handled bodies and blows better than ever.
What would you do differently?:

Draft better. Sight even better.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Found my bike and rack tipped over. Was not happy about it. That fact and removing my wetsuit took a little extra time. I also had a little trouble with my helmet straps.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. This aero helmet is just a little tricky to get on right.
Bike
  • 37m 44s
  • 13.82 miles
  • 21.98 mile/hr
Comments:

2:30 better than last year on same course! Not having a wreck helped, as did race wheels. But still my average speed was up there. I was pretty cautious in the tight turns.
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

This was a pretty good transition. Transition area very long this year.
What would you do differently?:

I may have taken my feet out of my shoes and then put both legs on the same side of the bike a little too soon.
Run
  • 24m 54s
  • 3.52 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt tough. Was pretty humid. Finished well.
What would you do differently?:

I would have liked for this to be a bit faster, but I haven't been doing any short speed training. Coach says that run speed is the first thing to go when training long like for ironman.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran 3 miles after talking and eating and putting everything away.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim speed, run speed

Event comments:

Great race. I like the new course. Great mental effort today. Wasn't too scared of the swim compared to prior races. Bike greatly improved. Run not improved, but hasn't fallen off as much as I feared. I can improve more on the swim. If I were training more specifically for this distance, I could ride and run faster too. 29/338 males.
