Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3:20am, got dressed, loaded car, left house with waffle in hand. Took around 2hrs to get to the race, plus a little extra time that it took to stop for the bathroom when we got off the highway. Arrived about 6:00 or a bit after, hurried to get to T-area. Had Roswell Bikes adjust shifting a bit and set up T-area. Headed down to the start about 7:00.
Event warmup:

Nada. Waking up at 3:15 was enough warm up.

Comments:

Good swim for me. Start was a TT start in groups of 2's. I wasn't sure how I'd like that, but I did for the most part. It was nice to avoid the huge crowd at the start. I was a little annoying during the bike and run since you didn't know your placement in your AG like you normally would.

Anyways, I felt good the whole swim, passed some people got passed by a few guys also. I tried to really focus on staying on course since I've had issues with that lately...it helped to follow the line of people in front of me. Not much else to say about the swim...this was only my 3rd race to split in the 1:30's in 3 years. I'm happy about that, but I know I can swim faster and get closer to my T-pace.
What would you do differently?:

Need to suck it up to push the swim more. I think I just put it on auto pilot, I can go faster.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Good T1 for sure! This was my fastest T1 ever by :12. It helped that the run into transition was short I guess. I just think I'm getting better at not being pokey- something I'm very good at in the rest of my life!
AG- 3/9
Women- 11/64
What would you do differently?:

GO faster, I want under 1:00!
Bike
  • 1h 17m 5s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I love the bike now! I've always enjoyed it, but I'm starting to see all the training miles pay off. The bike started off pretty good, but it took me a mile or two to get into my grove. I'd also noticed that I didn't put my magnet on the race wheels, so I semi-freaked that I had no speed, pace, etc. Oh well...I started trying to estimate my bike pace, but I suck at math so I could only get a good idea at 5 mile increments. Felt strong most of the ride. I tried to push the downhills and keep steady on the uphills. I liked that the course wasn't too crowded, I guess because of the TT start.
What would you do differently?:

Don't forget magnet for computer. Push harder because it's not going to kill my already crappy run!
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Fastest T2 ever..by a second. Clipped my race belt and visor together, and it worked good. ADollar gave that idea. I kinda wanted to swich socks here, but I didn't have any others. I could feel some gravel on my feet during the bike, but it didn't bother me on the run.
AG- 3/9
Women- 7/64
What would you do differently?:

Wipe feet off a little better in T1.
Run
  • 1h 00m 55s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Ahhh, the run. My biggest limiter. My time here was the same as my last Olympic last July. Not sure if that's good or bad. I know I can do better. I'd like to be closer to a 9:00 split vs a 10:00 split. That said, I did feel good during this run. My goal was to run as much as possible, something I'm very bad at...no mental drive to push. So I ran the entire way except to drink at aid stations and to walk the one short hill. I do feel good about that. But, now I need to focus on speed more. I think I can keep the same steady pace but still pick it up some.

Looking at the results, I'm noticing that I'm within 1:00 for the 3rd place(in AG) finisher on the swim and bike...I could have be a little quicker. It's my run that was exactly 5:00 slower. I know I can run a 55:00 in a tri. I'm not upset about not placing 3rd, but it feels so close now. I need to remember this the res of the season.
What would you do differently?:

Stop slacking on run training. Suck it up and run faster, while keeping it steady. I want to be able to run the entire 10K but at a lot faster pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Standing under the sprinkler tent. It was awesome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to work on mental toughness, mainly on the run.

Event comments:

I thought this was a great race! I didn't think it would be so small, but it wasn't a big deal. I'd like to have placed better in my AG, but I PR'd by about 9:00...so I'm happy with that. I knew it was going to be fast going into it, so I wasn't expecting to place anyways.
