Pre-race routine:

I live about 20 minutes from the race site, so I got up, had a breakfast cookie and headed out the door. Got to the site and picked up my packet, got my transition area set up and had thefine people at Roswell Bicycle adjust the limit screws on my rear derailleur.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little bit
Swim
  • 11m 29s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK - I stink at swimming and I am working on it. this was a very crowded swim and I never got any clear water. After getting kicked a dozen times and finally got into a rythm with about 100 meters to go. One of the swim coaches that I am working with from the Sportfactory started 4 minutes behind me and caught me with about 50 to go. Definately going to work on my swimming. I got out of the water around 9:10 and took the rest of the time to climb the hill to the transition area. It was the steepest hill on the course by far
What would you do differently?:

Need top practice alot more in the open water
Transition 1

Good T1
Bike
  • 38m 8s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent bike leg for me. I could have pushed it a bit harder up the hills. I really enjoyed the ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Good T2
Run
  • 26m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought I was running faster! I felt good and thought I was around an 8 minute pace (which would have been good for me). It took me about a mile to get my legs going and I had calf cramps throughout the run. I did not drink anything on the course and that was probably a mistake.
Post race
Warm down:

Met some great people at this race. It was by far the best post race atmosphere of the races I have done this year

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Conditioning and my swim

Event comments:

This was a good wrap up to my first year of competing. I improved since my first race in April and look forward to more improvement next year.
