Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:20AM. Got truck loaded up, had a slice of toast and some Gatorade. . Got to race, set up transition. Talked with a few friends and got body marked. Wife helped me get wetsuit zipped off and headed for the water.
Event warmup:

Swam a couple of hundred yards with a few sprints to try and get my heart rate up.
Swim
  • 06m 37s
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a good swim. I have to admit, I am a much better pool swimmer than open water swimmer.. . I would rather all of the swims be in 50 meter pools.
What would you do differently?:

Just practice open water swims before hand.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

I have bad transitions. I could probably cut a minute or two off my total time if I was better at this.
What would you do differently?:

I guess there is a reason to practice... It is just hard to simulate race pace unless you are racing.
Bike
  • 29m 9s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 23.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the bike. . I just hit it and hammered through it. No water bottles or anything extra on the bike. . just me and the pedals. Full out sprint. . .
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do differently. I did have some clicking noise coming from my bike after the first loop I slowed down a little for, but I have no idea what it was and it went away after a bit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Again, I don't wear socks on the bike, but I have to on the run because of orthotics, so it takes me about 30 seconds longer to put on socks.
Run
  • 21m 22s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

My run is my weak point. I need to run better. I have been working on it and do see improvements. My first mile was 6:48 so I was happy with that. . .
Post race
Warm down:

Did a 3 mile jog warm down. Basically ran the course again.

Event comments:

This is a very nice first of the season race to do. This is the first time where I have done a triathlon with the mindset of racing to win or place very high. I need to have more confidence in my ability in the water and bike and really need to work some more on the run. No excuses, but I did bike 95 miles on Saturday (the day before). :)
