Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 45/70
Pre-race routine:

Got up about 3:30am. Ate a waffle and drank some coffee. I then drove the 2 hours to Lake Hartwell.
Event warmup:

Waited in line at the bathroom, twice.
Swim
  • 25m 19s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Visibilty was horrible. It was foggy and the sun was burning through the fog which made it difficult to see. The first leg was into the sun and I swam a ways off course. Sighting was difficult the rest of the race due to the red swim caps that were givin to wear. They looked alot like the orange buoys at a distance in the fog.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 04m 32s
Comments:

I accidentally put on my running shoes instead of my bike shoes. I ran all the way to the mount point prior to realizing this little fact. I then ran back to switch shoes.

I am such a bonehead sometimes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my T1 transition more.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 3s
  • 26.1 miles
  • 17.59 mile/hr
Comments:

This is the point at which I realized I was not going to have a PR. Since this is my last race of this season and last race in this age group it was a little discouraging.
What would you do differently?:

I am still trying to figure this one out.
1) The heat was getting to me so I need to do more training in the middle of the day when it is really hot. All of my training is currently done early morning.
2)I also need to replace my 25lb 1991 Cannondale sc600 (Alu & Cromoly) for a real tri bike.
3) I just started biking in April so more training time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

This transition went really well.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a race number belt.
Run
  • 1h 05m 34s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

With the heat and no hope of a PR I honestly I threw in the towel at this point and walked most of the way.
What would you do differently?:

MORE TRAINING IN THE HEAT. The heat took me out at the Disney Marathon, Peachtree Road Race and now Tugaloo this year. I need to be able to have a good race when it is above 65 degrees.
Post race
Warm down:

Took a shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Primarily the heat. My training level was appropriate for the race. I need to do more training in the heat.

Event comments:

The race itself was well run as usual. The only thing I would have changed was the red caps that the swimmers were suposed to wear. Through the fog they looked too much like the buoys.

If the race was the begining of October it might have been a little cooler which would have been nice.
