Swim
Comments: Course looked long because it was point to point and not out and back. Lots of boats for rescue but they also caused me to breath a good bit of fumes. Chop was a little bit heavier on second leg. Transition 1
Comments: Big hill coming out of water. Ate some cubes during T1 and had to put all my swim stuff in a trash bag for logistics. Had a spot right on end of rack and found it quick. What would you do differently?: On this race I would have my trash bag unfolded (took a few seconds stretching itout). I would also wait till I'm on the bike course before eating. Those cubes take a lot of water to get down. Bike
Comments: This is what hurt me even though it showed on the run. I could tell at the Kings Mtn climb that I was starting to loose energy. I also started to have pain in my upper back and neck and had to come out of aero position. I don't know why I had pain. I've done 40-50 miles without pain before. Transition 2
Comments: Once again I was lucky in my rack assignment. I was 4th rack on the left from the end. I bet there was 25 rows and the people in the middle would really have to look. I took a water bottle with me for the run because I could tell i was going to need it. Run
Comments: After mile 2, I hit the wall and started walking. I probably walked 2 miles of the final 4. This is the first time I have ever had to walk. I actually thought about quiting. I could not drink enough water during this run/walk even though there were plenty of drink stations. What would you do differently?: I need to do more training. This was my first International distance and I think I picked a hard one as my first. Post race
Warm down: Found shade and drank water. I was too spent to do any kind of warm down run or walk. After 30 min I was able to eat a cookie and a piece of chicken. Then I found the watermelon and had 3 pieces. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to train more. I will be back next year and my goal will be to not walk any of the run course. Event comments: Best race I have ever done. The town of Kings Mountain was really involved. Prerace and postrace events were great. I would recomend this race. It is tough as heck but it is fun. Tent camped at Moss lake and actually got a good nights sleep. Logistics took up most of my time. Had to replace my front tube and bike support never showed up, so I raced without a spare. I also forgot my odometer.
Stretched and did a few push ups.
