Overall Rank = 2/300
Age Group = m20-24
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

oatmeal for breakfast, drive to race
Event warmup:

12 mins jog, 10 mins bike...wanted to get in a little more warmup, especially on the swim, but they pulled everyone out of the water as I was getting in.
Swim
  • 24m 48s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

thought I was having a really solid swim, still am happy with it, but figured I would be faster...still am not sure, but I think my pool swimming is much better than what I'm doing in the open water
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I thought I was going to be able to get on the bike quick with my newly practiced technique, but I think I rushed it too much and ended up just throwing my leg over like I always used to. I was apparently the second fastest T1 out there and I didn't really run all that fast from the water to my bike.
What would you do differently?:

I rode like 3 miles before I got my feet in the shoes. I was going on adrenaline and there were a lot of people around and some hills and turns in the first couple miles that made me decide to wait.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 24s
  • 25 miles
  • 22.59 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I still need to get the bike fitness way up
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

finally got off the bike looking somewhat like an experienced guy. second fastest T2
Run
  • 35m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 05m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

my splits were all over on the run... it took me a while to get comfortable out there and then had trouble staying comfortable. 6:02, 5:26, 5:33, then close to 6 mins
What would you do differently?:

I'm really not sure. I think the fact that it was a fairly tough run course made me cramp up some. I think I hydrated ok on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

didn't do anything really...went and sat to cheer on people coming in after me

What limited your ability to perform faster:

overall fitness, especially on the bike.

Event comments:

lots of volunteers on the bike course that made it very easy to follow the course and felt safe...the run course was a different story though...it was kinda lonely out there, wasn't sure where to go at times and started to make a wrong turn at one point because the volunteer wasn't pointing in the right direction.
