Pre-race routine:

I think the race announcer said it right: I'm never naming a child Hanna. Hahaha!

I awake on Sunday morning excited and SURPRISED to greet a gorgeous day. I try to choke down food (peanutbutter and banana sandwich) but it is nausea city. My dad and I arrive early and I set up my transition area. I'm able to meet up with a couple girls before the race.
Event warmup:

Lil jog and a dip in the water
Swim
  • 11m 42s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

The start line was over our heads, it was kind of freaky!!! Wasn't expecting that. I started swimming and get wacked by a few large waves (yes-in a lake...I find out later it was a rescue boat!). Water was a little choppy thanks to Hanna. Kept swallowing water and it was NOT helping my nausea!!! Sighting was good.
What would you do differently?:

I had a difficult time navigating around/through other swimmers. I need to learn to be a little LESS considerate! Also, I really felt slowed down because I didn't crawl enough w/my head down (too anxious).
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

T1 was great...my family was literally right next to my transition area which was awesome. I ran back up to my bike (lots of women walking) Didn't rush too much.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up speed using things like Yanx
Bike
  • 44h 47m
  • 11.8 miles
  • 0.26 mile/hr
Comments:

Luckily, I knew the course from the test run. Inhaler puffs helped on those hills, but still wheezed on the big ones. Kind of funny, I was passing people going up hill while wheezing like crazy!!!! I passed alot more bikers than expected and was only passed once or twice! I felt like a rock star!!!!!!!!!!!!
What would you do differently?:

More hill work...never seems to be enough! hhehehe
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Took my time...blew my nose....let my HR come down
What would you do differently?:

Not need the extra time to bring down the HR
Run
  • 28h 33m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 9h 12m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

First mile was VERY slow, legs felt much heavier than usual. Picked up the pace for the last two miles. Never have been so happy running before. Sprinted the last bit (despite queasy tummy).
What would you do differently?:

Do more bricks after TOUGH bike rides
Post race
Warm down:

Walking

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Aerobic capacity, other people (during the swim and a car in my way during the bike), anxiety during the swim.

Event comments:

I had such a blast and met some incredible women along the way!!!!!!!!!!! My first tri was an experience I'll never forget.
