Kept it easy and resisted the urge to push myself. Went at 10 minute miles pretty much the whole first half of the race. Pushed myself *slightly* in the 2nd half of the race, so I was probably doing 9:30 miles or so. My heart rate stayed in Zone 3 the whole time. Knee started hurting a bit around mile 10 or so, unfortunately. But I was able to maintain my pace through the finish. I just hope it all holds up for the marathon next month...
What would you do differently?:
Nothing, except really race instead of just jogging the course like a training run. I know I could have PR'd on this course if I'd really run it.
Walked around a bit, stretched, got some ice on my knee, but as of tonight, its still hurting pretty badly. Met up with friends right after the race and went to get a burger on the way back to my brother's place before flying back to SoCal.
What limited your ability to perform faster:
IT Band issues, and the fact that I was using this as a training run instead of really racing it.
I liked this race. Maybe I'll really race it next year... :) I hope that my IT band holds up for my marathon, I'm getting really worried about it, because my knee is really hurting after only a half-marathon... sigh...

My brother and I left the house at about 5:45am. Got to San Jose at around 6:20 or so and found a great parking spot right on Market in between the start and finish lines. Sipped lots of my sports drink for the next 80 minutes or so. Peed a lot in the bushes next to the parking spot so as to avoid the long porta-potty lines. Stayed warm in the car mostly.
With about 20-30 minutes to go before the start, jogged around the block twice and then stretched. I had decided that with my IT band issues and my knee hurting badly during my long marathon training runs that I would run this race in Zone 3, instead of really racing it and injuring myself further. Stretched out a lot, put on my heart rate monitor and went over to the starting area.
