Swim
Comments: Swim was comfortable this year.Cold treading water before the gun, but not cold I sighted much better. Started in front line of the group and didn't have any problems with congestion. Goggles worked great. (no leaks and no fogging. What would you do differently?: Not much. Pretty good swim. Was 10-20 seconds faster than last year. Transition 1
Comments: Misstepped getting onto bike. Flatwing sits up higher than I thought and bumped the water bottle getting my leg over. Rolled on socks and it worked much better. Sucked down one gel before heading out. What would you do differently?: Practice more starts and finishes. Bike
Comments: Haven't spent enough time on the bike. Results show it. I didn't push hard but time was slower than last year by a couple of minutes. What would you do differently?: More water. I had water in my aerobottle. Also took a bottle of Heed. I ran out of water on the way back in and had to sip more Heed than I wanted. I used SaltStick caps every 30 minutes and they seemed to work well. No GI issues on bike. Transition 2
Comments: Clipped leg on the water bottle again. I've got to learn to get the leg up and over. Overall a better finish off the bike that the start. Run
Comments: Was tight for first mile with some left anterior shin pain, but it disappeared. Sips of water at stations and some on head to cool off. Ate one gel at turnaround. Little nausea on way in. Maybe too much Heed on bike? Minor quad tightness on way in at about mile 4 but no cramps and no reason to stop. What would you do differently?: Figure out the drinks on the bike Post race
Warm down: Gentle stretching and water. Drank a protein mix as well. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enought time on the bike yet. Event comments: Large, well run race that gets better each year. Highlight was watching my son race in the kids race Saturday. He finished as the 8th male overall and 19/72 overall. Woke up and had cerial and PB toast, OJ, and a cup of coffee. Sipped a bottle of Heed on way to race.
Got Transition area set up and stretched a bit. Found my friend Brian and talked with him and his kids before the race. I had to introduce them to the sport of triathlon.
