Swim
Comments: Seems like a slow time, but I feel pretty good about the swim because I swam the entire length of the course without any difficulties. The only time I had to stop was to deal with traffic. Otherwise, I think my open water swim practice paid off. Plus the water temperature was really comfortable. Easy to maintain a breathing rhythm. Don't know how my time ranked against others in my wave. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder. Transition 1
Comments: I was moving a little slow because of the weather and you had to get all the equipment into a bag to be transported back to race finish. I made the mistake of wearing a top layer of clothes which got totally soaked in the rain and took up too much space in the transition bag. Then I realized that my bike helmet was not fitting properly and I had to adjust the strap to get it on and it was still a little bit tight. What would you do differently?: Check my helmet. Don't bring extra clothing that is going to get soaked in the rain. Bike
Comments: A decent ride but a bad start. The rain made it very difficult to clipped in to the pedals. I finally got my left foot clipped in while starting up a hill, but the right foot kept slipping off the pedal. Then when my speed started to drop, the right foot slipped off the pedal and caused me to fall right over on my side. To make matters worse, my chain fell off the chain ring and got a little tangled in the real derailleur. A tough way to start. I got it fixed, got back on the bike and made up some ground. The roads were pretty slick from the rain. You had to start braking early and go very slow through the corners. A couple of spots on the course required 180 degree turnarounds which is kind of annoying. I had a pretty good bike segment except for the start which cost me a couple of minutes. What would you do differently?: What can you do? Transition 2
Comments: I tied up two bags at T2 to keep my stuff dry. But I forgot which one contained my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Minimize the number of bags to mark each accordingly. The conditions resulted in making some decisions that ordinarily might not be necessary. Run
Comments: This is a personal record pace for me. What would you do differently?: Maybe push just a little harder. Post race
Warm down: didn't do much except grab a drink and some fruit Event comments: This is a nice well organized race. Not sure if it is USAT certified. Last updated: 2008-05-20 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:10 for 30 minute drive to race venue. Ate an english muffin, yogurt and granola mix, and banana, and some coffee. It was raining pretty consistently.
It was raining quite hard by the time I arrived at the race. I got organized at the car and dumped everything that I didn't really need. Then I dropped my run stuff at T2 and made the walk to T1. Warm up consisted only of a quick dip in the lake and a brief stretch while waiting for my wave.
