Pre-race routine:

I never get sick. However, I was fighting sickness 3 days before the race. I slept 18 hrs on Saturday. Wife said I was crazy for going.
Went to bed around 11:00pm, woke up at 4:00am. Drank glass of water and glass of gatorade. Ate Miniwheats, banana, peanut butter sandwhich. Drove from Lutz to MB with my son. Picked up packet, setup transition, eliminated some liquid.
Event warmup:

Ate gel pack about 30 mins before swim.
Jumped in water about 15 mins before swim.
Stretched.
Swim
  • 16m 38s
  • 805 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was concerned how being sick just the day before would affect me. I did feel more fatigued than usuall but felt like I was making OK time. Got into good rythem after halfway point. Lost about 10 lbs of snot and my head felt clear for the first time in 4 days. BTW.. noticed some people walking the swim course.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick. Work on more intevals in pool to get speed up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

This was an area I really wanted to improve upon based on my previous 3 races. I was right on target 2:00 mins. Did no socks in the bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Next time work on leaving shoes on bike.
Bike
  • 45m 36s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

I could not get my Garmin in the right mode so I was not sure how fast I was going. Maybe a good thing. Did not push to hard since I did not know how much energy I would have left after being sick all day before. Was very pleased to see time.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick. Work on intervals to increase speed.
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Again, T2 was 2 mins right were I planned it.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get shoes on quicker.
Run
  • 35m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Did good first 1.5 miles on pavement (9.5 min/mile). For the last 1.5 miles of beach the tide was high so I ran on sand. Did not want to push it. Did some walking which is why my run time was so stinking slow.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick. Don't walk.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and cooled off in the water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Definitly being siok.

Event comments:

This was first time running this race. Fun race. Looking forward to coming back next year with a much improved time.
