This is where I need some work. The preparation goes out the window as soon as the race begins.

Come up with a mental checklist to run down to get everything off and on properly

go out harder and push the whole way. by the time i figured out how close i was to the finish i couldn't really make up much time

Event comments:

2nd Xterra. Much better than the first one in terms of organization. I was in much better shape which allowed me to do better even though my mental preparation wasn't there. Beer on the ride home was the perfect recovery drink.
