Swim
Comments: The swim was uneventful...which is good in my case. I felt comfortable and would describe my swim as measured and steady. Passed several, got passed by several, but no breakdowns. The swim includes about a 400y run to the transition area. I stopped to remove my wetsuit along the way and had just a bit of difficulty with the zipper. What would you do differently?: At this point, there is not much I would do differently. I would like to swim faster, but that's something I'll have to work on in the off season. Transition 1
Comments: I had already removed my wetsuit before arriving in T1, so it should have been a pretty quick transition. A little slow getting into the bike shoes, as usual, but a fairly efficient transition. What would you do differently?: Try to get the bike shoes on a little quicker. Bike
Comments: Pushed hard on the bike, probably couldn't have gone much harder. HR monitor says I was right at LTHR for the ride, so I didn't have much more in the tank. That said, I felt I had just an average bike. I worked hard, but didn't ever feel good. Last weekend, I felt like I was really going well (until the flat)...not today, however. Had about 8 oz of water on the bike, wasn't thirsty. Seems I worked way too hard for a 21.5 avg on the bike. What would you do differently?: I don't really know, just didn't feel like I had great legs today. Probably relates to the lack of bike training this last week, only one 45-minute ride... the day before the race. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good T2, but I almost knocked my bike over racking it. What would you do differently?: Better job of racking my bike. Run
Comments: No complaints about my run. I'm an average runner on a good day, so I'm pleased when I can get under 24 min for a Sprint 5k. Started out a little slow and picked the pace up through the end. Passed a couple, got passed by a couple more. No fluids on this run. What would you do differently?: Again, pretty good run for me right now. I think I could have gone out just a little harder, though, and maybe picked up another 30-45 sec. Post race
Warm down: Bottle of water and sports drink, breakfast burrito, hang out and wait for results and awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Age, training limitations, genetics and natural ability. Other than that, not much. Event comments: This was a well organized and run race, again. Good value for the money (good giveaways). Nice venue, well supported, plenty of volunteers; it is an annual event for me. Last updated: 2008-05-22 12:00 AM

Got up about 4:45am, after about 5 hours sleep. Difficult to get up and going, but felt fine once I had a cup of coffee in me. Breakfast of oatmeal and an english muffin, out the door about 5:20am. Arrived in Cheyenne about 6:10am, picked up packet, set up transition and slipped on wetsuit about 20 minutes before the start. Uneventful pre-race routine, really felt fairly relaxed.
Swam about 250m, moderate pace. Then out of the water to line up for the start. Had one Hammer Gel waiting for the start, only water the rest of the race.
