Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15 and had some peanut butter on toast. Got my stuff together and headed out to Hammonton. Stopped and got some coffee and drove to the event.
Event warmup:

This was my first swim using a full wetsuit. Spent some time even deciding if I should wear it but the temperature of the water made that decision a bit easier. So after finding a place for my bike and setting up, I put the wetsuit on and headed down to the lake.

Comments:

The lake was cold and even with the wetsuit you could feel the coldness of the lake. I started in the first group and was somewhat successful not getting run over too much. A push here and there was ok but didn't get any fists or feet to the face so that was good. The lake was a little murky and shallow in places. I was happy with my swim, especially using a wetsuit for the first time. My time was about my training pool time.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe just practice some more with a wetsuit

First time with a wetsuit and first time trying to get it off fast. Didn't work out too well. Plus as getting the suit off a perfect puddle of water in my wetsuit flew in the air and landed right into my running shoe. Wasn't looking forward to putting that on after the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Again just practice with the wetsuit.

I need to work on my bike. I need to work on getting my pace upwards of 20mph. I just don't put enough time in on the bike and it shows. It definitely gives me something to work on over the upcoming months. I started off strong but at the turnaround just couldn't keep my pacing and started getting frustrated by the end.
What would you do differently?:

More road work!

After being a bit disapointed with my bike, I felt I wasn't running that great. I checked my time at the turnaround thinking it was the halfway mark and wasn't happy. I didn't realize it wasn't the halfway until the end and saw my run time. I was happy with my run given everything that happened before it. I just ran a 5k a few weeks ago at 23.13 so 25.34 was ok with all that happened before it.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself just a bit toward the second half of the run.

Just got some bagel and peanut butter and headed back to my son's soccer game.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My own head!
